About The Position
Local Land Services is seeking passionate and motivated forestry professionals to join our Farm Forestry team. We currently have multiple opportunities available and are looking to establish a talent pool for future vacancies. Opportunities Available: 1 x Senior Forestry Officer (LLS Grade 6) – Ongoing, 1 x Forestry Officer (LLS Grade 5) – Ongoing, 1 x Forestry Officer (LLS Grade 5) – Temporary (12 months maternity leave relief). A talent pool may be created from this recruitment process and used to fill ongoing and temporary opportunities that arise over the next 18 months. Working within the Local Land Services Policy and Regulatory Programs team, you'll play a key role in supporting sustainable private native forestry across NSW. Senior Forestry Officers will also lead complex assessments and projects, provide technical leadership and mentoring, develop strategic partnerships, and collaborate on complex forestry and land management issues, and support the delivery of broader program outcomes and team priorities.
Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of forestry, forest management or a related industry.
- Experience interpreting legislation, policies or technical guidelines.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities.
- Experience using technology and spatial information systems to support decision-making.
- Degree qualifications in Forestry Science and/or equivalent industry knowledge and experience (Senior Forestry Officer).
- Demonstrated experience in forestry assessment, regulation, advisory services or natural resource management (Senior Forestry Officer).
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills (Senior Forestry Officer).
- Ability to provide expert advice and manage complex issues (Senior Forestry Officer).
- Experience leading projects and supporting the development of others (Senior Forestry Officer).
- Current NSW Class C Driver Licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout regional NSW.
Responsibilities
- Assess Private Native Forestry applications and Forest Management Plans.
- Provide technical advice to landholders, forestry practitioners and stakeholders.
- Interpret and apply relevant legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks.
- Conduct field inspections and site assessments across a range of environments.
- Support the delivery of advisory, extension and education services to landholders and communities.
- Develop productive relationships with government agencies, industry and community stakeholders.
- Contribute to projects that improve forest health, management and productivity.
- Lead complex assessments and projects (Senior Forestry Officer).
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring (Senior Forestry Officer).
- Develop strategic partnerships and collaborate on complex forestry and land management issues (Senior Forestry Officer).
