About The Position

The City of Beverly Hills is seeking a qualified Senior Forensic Specialist to provide support services to the Beverly Hills Police Department. This role involves scene investigations and laboratory analysis for processing and comparing friction ridge impressions. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in collecting and preserving physical evidence, analyzing and examining friction ridge impressions, using modern photographic techniques and equipment, performing searches in automated fingerprint identification systems, and employing laboratory development techniques. The position also requires the ability to train others, possess analytical and effective communication skills, high interpersonal qualities, and a desire to enhance the Identification Bureau. Exceptional customer service skills, a keen attention to detail, responsiveness, proactivity, a strong commitment to public service, considerable judgment and discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity are critical. This position requires the supervision of the recognition, collection, preservation, storage, and analysis of physical evidence recovered from crime scenes and accident locations, and provides technical and responsible staff assistance.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to an Associate Arts Degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Criminology, Criminalities or a closely related field.
  • Four years of experience in law enforcement identification work to include crime scene investigation and/or the examination of latent print evidence.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid California Driver License.
  • Experience in scene investigations and laboratory analysis for processing and comparing friction ridge impressions.
  • Knowledge in collecting and preserving physical evidence.
  • Knowledge in analyzing and examining friction ridge impressions.
  • Knowledge in using modern photographic techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge in performing searches in automated fingerprint identification systems.
  • Knowledge in employing laboratory development techniques.
  • Analytical and effective communication skills.
  • High interpersonal qualities.

Responsibilities

  • Processing scene investigations by detecting, searching, documenting, collecting, preserving, examining, and interpreting physical evidence.
  • Developing friction ridge impressions through physical and chemical methods.
  • Utilizing automated systems for comparing friction ridge impressions.
  • Qualifying as an expert witness in court.
  • Providing photographic services as required by the Department.
  • Supervising the recognition, collection, preservation, storage and analysis of physical evidence recovered from crime scenes and accident locations.
  • Providing technical and responsible staff assistance.
