Senior Firmware Engineer

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•$184,000 - $356,500

About The Position

NVIDIA is seeking a resourceful, highly motivated engineer experienced in microcontroller system software to join the Tegra System Software group. The role focuses on developing RTOS firmware for embedded microcontrollers within NVIDIA SoCs and GPUs, contributing to demanding system software challenges and product development in close collaboration with system software, hardware, and partner organizations. The engineer will guide firmware creation, translate product requirements and schedules into development roadmaps and team plans, and contribute throughout the system software lifecycle—from chip POR and pre-silicon development through silicon bring-up and production. The position also includes low-level driver development and debugging, as well as collaboration with ASIC designers on next-generation microcontrollers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant system software development experience.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture, processor ISAs, and microcontroller fundamentals, including caches, buses, memory controllers, and DMA.
  • Demonstrated background in C and assembly programming, including the ability to develop intricate, secure, and efficient microcontroller firmware.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and project ownership.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and ability to work effectively with on-site and remote groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across geographies in a dynamic, matrixed organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience productizing firmware with an embedded RTOS, such as SafeRTOS, on ARM or RISC-V microcontrollers.
  • Practical knowledge of linkers and linker scripts.
  • Previous technical leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the creation of RTOS firmware operating on embedded microcontrollers within NVIDIA SoCs and GPUs.
  • Partner with hardware, software, and cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and schedules and translate them into a development roadmap and detailed team plans.
  • Contribute across the system software lifecycle, including chip POR, pre-silicon development, silicon bring-up, and production.
  • Implement low-level driver development and debug system software.
  • Work with ASIC designers on the development of next-generation microcontrollers built into NVIDIA SoCs and GPUs.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Equity.
