About The Position

Michael Baker International is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to lead fire protection strategies in Texas. This client-facing role involves technical leadership, project delivery, relationship management, and guiding solutions for protecting people, assets, and operations. The engineer will have the support of the national Fire Protection Engineering team while leading the regional presence. Responsibilities include engaging in projects from concept to commissioning, developing proposals, leading system designs, conducting site evaluations, and overseeing testing and acceptance. The role will cover diverse systems such as fire sprinklers, pumps, high-expansion foam, clean agents, fire alarm, and mass notification, serving industries like the Department of Defense, data centers, industrial and manufacturing facilities, and commercial clients.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection
  • 8+ years professional experience
  • BS or MS in Fire Protection Engineering or related field
  • Experience in fire protection system design including: fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, clean agent systems, high expansion foam systems, fire alarm and mass notification systems
  • Experience in computer generated hydraulic design
  • Knowledge and experience of building and design codes, specifically IBC, NFPA 101, NFPA 13 and NFPA 72
  • US Citizen Required

Responsibilities

  • Business development and client management
  • Proposal preparation, project budgets, and project work schedules
  • Hydraulic calculations for sprinkler and fire pump design
  • Analysis of life safety requirements for buildings, including building code compliance, occupant load calculations, and egress analysis
  • On-site system evaluations and final system testing
  • Coordination of designs with other engineering disciplines
  • Grow revenue from existing client base through ensuring high quality work products and regular client interactions
  • Attend local industry events to create and maintain networking connections
  • Identify and win new work from new and existing clients
  • Communicate with clients to understand their needs and provide technical expertise
  • Present project proposals and updates to clients
  • Ensure client satisfaction through effective project delivery
