About The Position

ProSidian seeks a Designated Fire Protection Engineer (DFPE) for Program Support on an Exempt 1099 Contract basis. This role involves Fire Protection Engineering and Technical Governance and AHJ Coordination, primarily supporting geographically dispersed naval engineering facilities. The position is for a Contract Contingent, Exempt 1099 Contract with no overtime pay, and the work is to be performed on client sites, initially identified in North Charleston, SC, but with a focus on the California Central Coast region, specifically Vandenberg Space Force Base. This role aligns with the GSA Labor Category: Senior Consultant and requires relevant Defense and National Security Sector Experience. ProSidian reserves the right to convert this to a full-time W-2 position. The core focus is on delivering mission-critical fire protection engineering, risk assessments, regulatory compliance, and safety solutions for Navy installations, including design reviews, life safety assessments, and compliance support across NIWC. AHJ coordination involves working with designated Navy or installation authorities to resolve code interpretations, address design-review findings, and obtain approvals.

Requirements

  • Registered PE (Professional Engineer).
  • Passed NCEES fire protection examination.
  • Relevant fire protection experience.
  • DFPE designation and authority require Navy confirmation.
  • DFPE designation for the assigned AOR and documented authority confirmed.
  • Engineering degree supporting PE registration.
  • Relevant fire protection engineering education and experience appropriate to assigned oversight.
  • If QFPE functions are performed, meet supplied QFPE credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Defense and National Security sector-related work on client-site engineering services for Navy | NIWC Fire Protection Engineer Services and Support as a Labor Category: Senior Consultant.
  • Lead design and submittal reviews.
  • Coordinate with government AHJs.
  • Scope and plan SRM fire protection work.
  • Evaluate existing facility life safety when tasked.
  • Document technical findings and recommended resolutions.
  • Oversee assigned project/AOR fire protection responsibilities.
  • Participate in design and submittal reviews.
  • Coordinate with applicable AHJs.
  • Support SRM engineering scoping and planning.
  • Participate in existing-facility fire protection and life safety evaluations.
  • Consolidate review comments, deficiency recommendations, and SRM scope inputs.
  • Confirm written designation, AOR, decision rights, escalation route, and relationship to government AHJs before assigning duties.
  • May absorb project coordination, plan examination, and facility evaluation functions within the 0.5 man-year scope.
