Sr. Financial Planning Analyst

About The Position

Seel is post-purchase infrastructure for retailers. Our embedded Return Assurance and Worry-Free Delivery products let shoppers buy peace of mind at checkout, while Seel underwrites the risk, manages refunds and reverse logistics, and recovers value through resale and refurbishment of returned goods. Seel also sells a Performance Dashboard analytics product to enterprise merchants. We serve thousands of merchants, from emerging DTC brands to multi-billion-dollar marketplaces, and we're expanding into predictive, data-driven risk reduction for retailers. Seel is hiring an FP&A Associate to own the company's core financial model, forecasting, reporting, and pricing analysis. This is a hands-on role with real ownership for someone who wants to grow into a broader strategic finance seat as we scale toward our next raise. You'll partner closely with the CFO to keep the model, forecasts, board materials, and pricing analysis accurate and current, and you'll be expected to use Claude and other AI tools day to day to move faster than a traditional analyst role allows.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in FP&A, accounting, investment banking, consulting, or a related analytical role; startup or ecommerce/marketplace exposure is a plus.
  • Strong financial modeling fundamentals: comfortable building and maintaining a 3-statement model and supporting schedules.
  • A genuine interest in the mechanics of modeling, not just the strategic output — this role is hands-on with the model day to day.
  • Comfortable with accounting fundamentals: candidates coming from a public accounting, corporate accounting, or hybrid FP&A/accounting background are a great fit, not just traditional FP&A backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with core ecommerce and unit-economics concepts (GMV, return rates, AOV, CAC) and pricing/packaging fundamentals, or eagerness to learn them quickly.
  • Hands-on comfort with Claude or comparable AI tools, and genuine interest in using them daily to speed up modeling and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP accounting concepts (accruals, deferred revenue, reconciliations) sufficient to partner with Accounting.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with a track record of accurate, on-time reporting.
  • Clear communicator who can present analysis to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets; SQL experience is a plus for pulling your own data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NetSuite or a comparable ERP, and with BigQuery or a similar warehouse.
  • Prior exposure to pricing strategy, packaging, or discount analysis in a product or ecommerce business.
  • Exposure to insurance-adjacent metrics, such as loss ratio and claims, or marketplace and platform unit economics.
  • Prior experience at an early-stage startup where the FP&A function was still being built out.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update Seel's core 3-statement model, monthly actuals-to-plan reporting, and recurring dashboards.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis by driver (GMV, take rate, loss ratio, opex) and flag anomalies for the CFO.
  • Own recurring pricing and packaging analysis — monitor performance of existing pricing tiers, run discount and merchant-economics analysis, and support pricing decisions as our product and segment mix evolves.
  • Own the quarterly forecast and annual budget cycles, including assumptions and supporting schedules.
  • Turn around requests from the CFO, Sales, and Operations teams on pricing, headcount, and merchant economics.
  • Assemble data and slides for board materials and investor updates under the direction of the CFO.
  • Maintain clean, reliable data pipelines from BigQuery and NetSuite into the model, and keep source files organized and auditable.
  • Use Claude to automate recurring reporting, variance write-ups, and scenario analysis, and help spot new opportunities to apply AI within finance.
  • Partner with Accounting on month-end close items, such as accruals, deferred revenue, and reconciliations, that feed into the model.

Benefits

  • $185-200K base salary
  • Equity in a highly successful Series B startup with exceptional customer retention
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
