About The Position

As a Senior Financial Officer, you will be joining a team of Finance experts in Financial and Budget Services to provide the U of T Mississauga community with assistance and information on all aspects of accounting, finance, budgeting, financial systems and project management. The U of T Mississauga community will trust you to be their true partner in all things Finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of relevant financial budget and accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets, forecasts and variance analysis
  • Strong ability to identify critical issues and problem-solve independently
  • Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Office: Excel (Advanced formula & functions, pivot tables), Word, PowerPoint
  • Experience in reconciling financial information, generating financial reports from a financial system and process improvement
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to deal effectively and efficiently with a large volume of work in a timely manner. High tolerance for dealing effectively with busy and demanding clientele and meeting deadlines. Ability to manage multiple/competing deadlines and priorities
  • Demonstrates initiatives, tact, and sound judgment in the handling of sensitive and confidential matters

Nice To Haves

  • SAP experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting
  • Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
  • Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
  • Forecasting and planning financial activities, incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
  • Identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Liaising with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing issues
