About The Position

Westerkirk Capital Inc. (‘WCI’), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst. The organization is a single-family office managing assets via internal direct and third-party/external managers across a variety of portfolios and asset classes including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, and real estate. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst is a key member of the finance team. The ideal candidate is analytically sharp, self-motivated, and experienced with business software applications, with a strong sense of personal accountability. This is a full-time, in-office position in Victoria; relocation supports are available.

Requirements

  • Qualified or enrolled CPA/CFA designation plus a minimum of 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in Finance and Accounting.
  • Strong financial background, and expert knowledge of Excel is required.
  • Sound financial modelling/analysis skills in Excel, analytical and problem-solving skills with solid understanding of accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task and accurately work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven professional with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate key themes and messages both with internal and external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial property operations or property development an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the analysis of current situation and future requirements of the budgeting process and reporting requirements of financial information to meet the needs of executives, and other stakeholders.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements appropriate/best practices and standardized reporting tools, such as templates or analysis tools for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Constantly seeks opportunities to improve processes and streamlines operations by investigating and applying innovative and appropriate solutions for information delivery and reporting submission.
  • Accountable for identifying and investigating quarterly variances to budget and forecast, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and potential risks.
  • Assists with providing systems administration and process training as required.
  • Ensure understanding of client requirements, providing recommendations, offering/proposing solutions, as well as creating functional documentation to ensure high end client satisfaction.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the company’s income producing property portfolio from an accounting and operational perspective and can communicate key issues with management.
  • Define, measure, analyze and improve current processes with impacts to financial results.
  • Monitor internal controls and implement solutions to ensure financial accuracy and adherence to policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Assist in mentoring the development of other team members through informal discussions.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives and ad hoc projects to provide financial analysis for decision support.
  • Research and champion the interpretation and application of new accounting standards, including drafting of technical accounting assessments/policies/position papers/memos for internal and auditor use.
  • Coordinate the year-end financial audits with the external auditors, as well as manage the audit issues resolution process.
