About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst plays a pivotal role in delivering accurate contribution margin reporting and accounting across the whole business. This position requires a proactive, accountable professional with a strong sense of ownership and exceptional analytical and financial expertise.

Requirements

  • University degree in Accounting (preferred) or Business Administration
  • 5+ years of professional work experience in financial planning, financial budgeting, financial forecasting, support commercial, sales, operations or in a similar role is required
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, food industry is preferred
  • Strong and effective communication skills
  • Adaptability and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and with little direction in a high volume, fast paced environment
  • Experience with an ERP, preferably SAGE
  • Proficient on Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong financial modelling skills and ability to translate a business problem into a model in multiple ways; contribute to the innovation of current financial models
  • Navigates complexity and simplifies processes
  • Collaborative approach to problem-solving

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze and report monthly gross margin analysis by product, customer, channel and production line
  • Conduct advanced variance analysis and report on end-to-end margins, driving improvements through operational actions, uncovering patterns, assessing deviations from targets (budget, forecast, and prior year), and provide root cause diagnostics to drive informed decision-making
  • Analyze portfolio mix, pricing, and trade investments to enhance margin performance
  • Proactively identify and communicate possible scenarios, risks and opportunities around business performance
  • Report product volume, pricing and foreign exchange mix variance analysis for Revenue and Cost of Materials
  • Develop and implement processes that support the dynamic modeling of revenue that drive accountability into the business and provide a reliable base for budgeting and cash forecasting
  • Drive timely and accurate reporting of Revenue and Contribution Margin to the organization at product, customer and production line level
  • Collaborate and prepare analyses of business trends and budget variance of financial results to be used in management reviews and strategic business analysis sessions
  • Support the Finance monthly and quarterly reporting package, providing key insights into financial performance and enhance transparency, setting up efficient systems and tools
  • Contribute to the planning and forecasting process, offering data-driven analysis and recommendations
  • Lead the development of scenario analyses and financial models to assess potential outcomes and support long-term planning
  • Provide rolling forecasts and scenario planning to adapt to changing business conditions
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to analyze product performance and profitability metrics
  • Act as a strategic partner to the Sales, R&D and Operations teams, providing financial guidance, insights and support strategic initiatives as well as other functions as needed
  • Support various finance and operations initiatives, partnering with teams on high-priority strategic projects to model and assess economics and analyze risks and opportunities
  • Provide financial expertise to other functional areas of the organization by understanding the ins and outs of their business
  • Support pricing strategies and business case development for new product launches, which includes liaising with sales, purchasing, production planning and R&D
  • Provide insightful financial analysis and recommendations for improvements in profitability, pricing, and any other direct costs specific to a customer or product group
  • Lead all financial analysis and presentation of financial projections in the S&OP monthly process, responsible for data validation and data accuracy of data inputs and outputs
  • Review costing methodology and processes to ensure consistency and accuracy
  • Update material, labour and overhead standard costs and impact of changes in unit costs in inventory and COGs
  • Review all new materials/products code setups, bills of materials and routings for accuracy to upload into ERP and troubleshoot and follow up resolution of issues or errors
  • Provide analytical support for ad-hoc requests on proposed changes to the material, process speeds, labour, scrap rates, etc.
  • Ensure timely completion and analysis of cost of goods sold, including labour, material, and production costs
  • Review and investigate work order variances and material variances (PPV)
  • Review monthly inventory adjustments and cycle count reports for large variances
  • Review Slow Moving and No Activity reports for potential write offs. Ensure un-saleable and discontinued items are disposed of, written off or reserved as appropriate
  • Work closely with Inventory Management and Control to assist in regular physical inventories to ensure accurate raw material and finished goods inventory counts and balance sheet integrity
  • Partner with the Sales team in preparing cost analysis for new and existing products
  • Identify opportunities to streamline existing processes using automation tools, advanced modeling, and modern analytical techniques
  • Improve financial visibility, control, and planning effectiveness through scalable processes, in collaboration with accounting and business teams.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and recommendations to management
  • Build and improve management reporting, financial modeling, and analysis that provides business insight for key decision making
  • Assist in all internal/external audits, as needed
