About The Position

The Senior Financial Analyst supports the Finance & Accounting Manager by providing advanced financial analysis, grant reporting, and oversight of government-funded and grant-supported programs. This role is responsible for analyzing financial performance, supporting fund accounting activities, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. The position works closely with the Mission Advancement team and program departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, proper coding of grant-related transactions, and effective monitoring of restricted and program funds that support the organization’s mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive financial analysis experience.
  • Strong proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and experience with D365, Power BI, Financial Modeling
  • Proven ability to analyze large amounts of data and provide actionable insights
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders clearly and concisely.
  • Advanced Skills with Microsoft Office programs (Word/PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in nonprofit accounting is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis on budgets, forecasts, and actual financial performance. Develop key insights into financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Lead financial review meetings with department partners, providing financial and budget insights and supporting informed decision-making.
  • Prepare and analyze departmental financial reports to support department leaders in monitoring budget performance and program spending.
  • Prepare and review grant financial reports, ensuring compliance with grant agreements, funding restrictions, and reporting requirements.
  • Reconcile and analyze grant revenues and expenditures, ensuring alignment with approved grant budgets and funding requirements.
  • Provide fund accounting analysis, monitoring restricted and unrestricted funds and ensuring proper reporting of program funding sources.
  • Prepare and maintain functional expense reports and net asset roll forward schedules to support nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the Mission Advancement team to prepare financial reports supporting grant applications, donor reporting, and funding proposals.
  • Prepare financial schedules and support documentation for Form 990 reporting in coordination with the finance team and external auditors.
  • Support the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting, including preparing allocations, analyzing budget changes, and assisting departments with budget revisions.
  • Oversee financial tracking and reporting of government-funded programs, ensuring compliance with program budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Support the annual financial audit by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses, special projects, and other assignments requested by the Finance & Accounting Manager or Finance Director.
  • Work closely with teams across the organization, including operations, development, and People & Culture, to provide financial guidance and promote financial literacy within the organization.
  • Promote and uphold safe work practices through awareness, training, and reporting of potential hazards.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
