About The Position

Are you a forward-thinking finance professional who is energized by enterprise-level challenges, strategic decision support, and cross-functional collaboration? In joining our Strategic Finance organization, you will work on projects and initiatives with the potential to materially influence the Company’s operating and financial plan. This role applies a long-term strategic and financial lens to complex opportunities, helping leaders evaluate growth, risk, affordability, balance sheet strength, and capital allocation decisions across Pinnacle West Capital Corporation, its non-utility subsidiaries, and Arizona Public Service Company.

Requirements

  • Degree in finance, accounting economics, mathematics or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved PLUS five (5) years directly related experience in financial analysis, accounting, economic analysis or data analytics in any industry OR five (5) years business operations related experience in the utility or energy services industry.
  • In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of formal education and experience totally ten (10) years is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of finance and economic analysis, corporate finance, utility regulation, utility operations.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong research, data management and effective communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.) and database tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial finance, utility finance, investment banking and/or capital markets, management consulting, and/or emerging financial policy analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on customer growth, affordability, risk management, asset purchases or sales, transaction pricing, and contract negotiations where Strategic Finance can help secure balanced enterprise outcomes.
  • Develop advanced financial and economic models, scenario analyses, and sensitivities that challenge assumptions and support well-informed management decisions.
  • Evaluate complex opportunities and business decisions by connecting financial analysis, operational considerations, and broader strategic implications.
  • Translate complex analysis into clear recommendations and executive-level materials that enable timely decisions.
  • Partner with senior leaders to frame decisions through enterprise outcomes, long-term financial implications, and alignment with Company strategy.
  • Lead special projects from framing through recommendation, working across silos with internal and external partners to align stakeholders, clarify tradeoffs, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Drive results by framing enterprise-level issues building advanced financial and economic models and delivering decision-worthy recommendations to senior executive leadership.
  • Analyze projects and initiatives that may materially influence the Company’s operating and financial plan, including growth, risk, affordability, balance sheet strength, and capital allocation considerations.
  • Support corporate development and commercial finance workstreams, including strategic opportunities, divestitures or asset monetization, critical commercial negotiations, complex capital opportunities, and emerging financial policies.
  • Collaborate with business partners to evaluate financial business scenarios, develop ad hoc models, formulate model inputs, process data through financial models, and communicate the broader strategic and financial implications of alternatives.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, files, records, and systems to support analytical rigor, continuity, compliance, and responsible handling of confidential or sensitive work.
  • Lead special projects from problem definition through recommendation, coordinating timelines, stakeholders, analyses, and deliverables to enable timely, well-informed decisions.
  • Develop, compile, present, and communicate scenario analysis, and decision-support materials for management, including key findings, conclusions, tradeoffs, and recommended actions.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to business partners and Finance & Accounting team members to build shared understanding of analyses, processes, assumptions, and decision impacts.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of emerging industry and Company issues, with particular focus on developments that could affect strategic positioning, customer growth, affordability, risk, and long-term financial performance.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Company and business-unit policies, procedures, accounting practices, utility regulation, and operational context needed to evaluate enterprise opportunities and constraints.
  • Mentor and support team members by sharing expertise, reinforcing strong business and financial acumen, and contributing to a rotational talent experience that prepares individuals for broader leadership roles across the Company.
