About The Position

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. The Senior Financial Analyst, Accounting Advisory provides guidance, accounting considerations and prepares formal assessments for accounting questions, and complex accounting issues. This role focuses on complex, material and/or unique issues; providing support to and guiding business partners with the accounting and reporting implications of transactions while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and policies.

Requirements

  • Provides accounting policy and financial reporting support and advice on Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards and interprets accounting standards for challenging business scenarios to ensure compliance to Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
  • Prepares and presents formal papers and memos on complex and material accounting issues outlining Metrolinx’s accounting position and guidance to stakeholders including business units, capital project teams, senior management team, external auditors, Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Ontario Provincial Controller’s Division (OPCD) and the Auditor General.
  • Creates and develops various templates with examples for typical accounting scenarios for finance teams to follow for accounting advisory memos and support the facilitation of training sessions for finance teams on accounting memo preparation.
  • Provides internal customers, leaders, and team members, with agreed upon reports and recommendations with accuracy and on deadline.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to support other financial professionals and activities (i.e., accountants, auditors, budget managers).
  • Demonstrates leadership and core competencies at a high level of development and is an exemplary model of living the corporate values and code of ethics.
  • Supports the consistent refresh of and maintains a searchable library of technical accounting reference guides and memos for the organization.
  • Based on team workload and priorities, as needed, works on projects on behalf of team members on accounting advisory and policy.
