About The Position

This role performs accounting responsibilities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for the preparation and compilation of monthly and year-end financial reporting support schedules for all Austal USA entities. This position involves performing analysis of data to discover useful information, suggest conclusions, and support decision-making. The role also includes preparing financial schedules for submission to Corporate, AUSA management, and external audit/review agencies, as well as assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements for Austal USA and its subsidiaries. The Senior Financial Accountant will monitor overhead rates, liaise with Finance management for accurate reporting and discrepancy correction, and prepare the annual Incurred Cost Submission. Additionally, this role coordinates with external and internal auditors, supports DCAA audits, prepares support schedules for budgeting and forecasting, performs monthly GL account reconciliations, investigates and resolves discrepancies, and reviews lease/rental agreements for IFRS compliance. Other related duties and special projects as assigned by Finance Management are also part of this role, along with maintaining written policy and procedures and ensuring compliance with Company policies.

Requirements

  • BS/BA Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field, preferably in manufacturing or corporate accounting, required.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer and technical aptitude to utilize MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS, GAAP and CAS.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams/organizations with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization skills a must.
  • Flexible and has the capability to deliver results in a fast paced, and high volume environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of personal accountability.
  • Ability to go in the shipyard, including off-site warehouse(s) and Austal’s West Campus, and conduct interviews. This includes physically climbing stairs and moving safely through constructions areas on and off vessels.

Nice To Haves

  • Advance degree, such as a MSA, MBA, CPA, a plus.
  • Experience with government and accounting standard compliance, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of an Enterprise Resource Planning system a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparation and compilation of monthly and year-end financial reporting support schedules for all Austal USA entities.
  • Performs analysis of data to discover useful information, suggestion conclusions and support decision making.

  • Assists in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements for Austal USA and any of its subsidiaries.
  • Monitors overhead rates to include, actual rates, bid rates and billing rates.
  • Liaisons with all Finance management to ensure accurate reporting and timely correction of all outstanding discrepancies.
  • Prepares annual Incurred Cost Submission for submittal to SUPSHIP/DCAA.
  • Coordinates and liaisons with external and internal auditors/reviewers to ensure compliance with proper reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Supports audits by Defense Contracting Audit Agency (DCAA) which includes data compilation, analysis of financial trends, and reconciliation of data to supporting documentation.
  • Prepares support schedules for annual budgeting and forecasting process for Austal USA entities.
  • Performs monthly GL account reconciliations and analyzes discrepancies.
  • Investigates and resolves discrepancies in account balances.
  • Reviews and monitors lease/rental agreements to ensure compliance with IFRS guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by Finance Management.
  • Maintains written policy and procedures for area of responsibility.
  • Maintains compliance with Company policies and procedures.
