About The Position

Redwood Materials is seeking a Senior Finance Associate for its Energy BD Finance group in San Francisco. The role is part of the core team responsible for the commercial finance function for the energy storage business. The associate will build and maintain project finance models and support deal development, approvals, and financing from end to end.

Requirements

• 4–7 years of experience in renewables project finance with significant deal-facing responsibilities.
• Exceptional financial modeling skills, including the ability to build complex, multi-scenario models from scratch in Excel.
• Ability to structure ambiguous commercial situations into clear financial frameworks that drive decisions.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, including experience distilling complex analyses for executive and investor audiences.
• Self-starter mentality, high ownership, and ability to manage multiple live deal processes simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

• Undergraduate or professional background in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Direct experience in energy storage, battery systems, or renewable energy project development and finance.
• Familiarity with tax equity structures, ITC qualification, and government incentive programs relevant to clean energy.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain project finance models for large-scale energy storage deployments, including scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, IRR/NPV outputs, and investor-ready presentations.
• Partner with Business Development throughout the deal lifecycle, from initial screening and term sheet evaluation through contract negotiation, providing financial analysis and recommendations.
• Own financial diligence and approval packages for new energy storage transactions, framing risk, return, and strategic fit for executive and cross-functional review.
• Develop pricing frameworks reflecting cost-to-serve and target returns, and work with Sales and Business Development to stress-test deal economics before commitment.
