Senior Field Service Engineer

TRIDENT SYSTEMS LLC• US,
•$61,000 - $101,000•Remote

About The Position

The Senior Field Service Engineer supports Trident in two primary methods: 1) by being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on vehicle time series data for Tactical Wheeled Vehicles and 2) by leading hands-on motor pool operations when a designated lead is not present. As a data SME, the position works closely with data science and visualization teams to provide subject matter input on what the data indicates for the vehicles and how that data would be used by the motor pool leadership. As a hands-on motor pool operations lead, the position plans and leads deployments that may include cross-functional teams of installation personnel. The Senior Field Service Engineer translates program and customer priorities into safe, executable field plans; ensures personnel, site, equipment, and documentation readiness; provides technical leadership onsite; and closes each activity with complete records, issue tracking, and lessons learned. This position requires regular participation in data science, visualization, on-site installation, integration, troubleshooting, maintenance, training, and customer support activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience (or 10 total years in lieu of a degree) in Tactical Wheeled Vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, motor pool operations, or comparable heavy vehicle systems.
  • Experience interpreting vehicle data and maintenance records and leading hands-on technical activities is required.
  • Strong practical understanding of vehicle systems, maintenance procedures, failure modes, and the decisions made by motor pool leaders and maintainers.
  • Ability to interpret vehicle time series data, trends, fault information, and maintenance records together, including recognition of missing, misleading, or incorrectly mapped data.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle sensors, diagnostic tools, and vehicle networks, including CAN/J1939 where applicable.
  • Ability to explain vehicle behavior and maintenance implications to data science and visualization teams, and to explain analytic findings clearly to field personnel and customers.
  • Ability to evaluate whether an alert or analysis is technically plausible and useful for inspection, troubleshooting, repair, or readiness decisions.
  • Ability to read, execute, and edit technical drawings, installation documents, test procedures, maintenance bulletins, and site-support records.
  • Strong judgment, organization, and communication skills, including concise status reporting, documentation of work performed, and timely escalation of risks and decisions.
  • Ability to work independently, balance data-focused and field responsibilities, and operate professionally at customer sites.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel/TDY to CONUS and OCONUS military installations for approximately 25% to 50% of working time.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret Vehicle Data - Serve as the vehicle maintenance subject matter expert for time series data from Tactical Wheeled Vehicles. Interpret operating conditions, system behavior, fault information, and trends in the context of vehicle configuration, maintenance history, and motor pool practice.
  • Translate Data into Maintenance Action - Work with data science and visualization teams to define useful health indicators, alerts, and displays. Explain what motor pool leaders and maintainers need to prioritize inspections, diagnose issues, plan repairs, and assess vehicle readiness.
  • Validate Analyses and Visualizations - Review findings against vehicle behavior, maintenance records, and field observations. Identify questionable signal interpretations, data quality problems, false alarms, and conclusions that do not fit the vehicle’s operating context; document findings and recommend corrections.
  • Connect Field Feedback to Product Development - Gather input from maintainers, operators, and motor pool leadership. Help investigate discrepancies between reported vehicle conditions and recorded data, and recommend improvements to data collection, analysis, displays, and support procedures.
  • Lead Assigned Motor Pool Activities - When this responsibility is assigned, plan and lead hands-on installations, upgrades, integration, troubleshooting, maintenance, demonstrations, training, and support activities through closeout.
  • Plan Multi-Person Deployments - Develop staffing plans, schedules, task assignments, site-readiness checklists, communications plans, and contingencies for field teams that may include up to six personnel.
  • Confirm Site and Logistics Readiness - Verify access, badging, security requirements, work areas, power/network availability, tools, test equipment, installation kits, spares, shipping status, technical data, safety needs, and customer prerequisites before travel.
  • Perform On-Site Installation and Integration - Work alongside the team to install, configure, integrate, test, and verify Trident products and supporting infrastructure, including end-to-end connectivity and applicable security requirements.
  • Maintain Quality, Safety, and Configuration Control - Ensure work follows approved installation guides, procedures, maintenance bulletins, safety practices, quality requirements, and configuration baselines.
  • Close Out Field Activities - Ensure site support logs, asset records, installation and test results, discrepancy reports, daily status updates, trip reports, lessons learned, photographs, and follow-up actions are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Provide Training - Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction to end users and support personnel, validate understanding, and identify updates needed to training materials.
