About The Position

The Senior Field Inspector leads field inspection and testing activities for roadway and infrastructure projects, ensuring construction work complies with project specifications, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards, and safety requirements. This role serves as a technical expert in the field, providing oversight, mentoring junior staff, and supporting project teams with high-level decision-making to drive quality construction outcomes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • 6+ years of field experience in roadway construction inspection, preferably on FDOT projects
  • Required certifications: Earthwork Level I
  • Required certifications: ACI Field Level I
  • Strong working knowledge of FDOT specifications, standards, and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to lead inspections independently and mentor junior staff
  • Experience reviewing and approving other inspectors’ work
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or inspection assignments simultaneously
  • Advanced documentation, reporting, and data interpretation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inspection/reporting software
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills in field environments
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field preferred
  • CTQP certifications required or strongly preferred: Asphalt Roadway Level I/II
  • CTQP certifications required or strongly preferred: Earthwork Level II
  • CTQP certifications required or strongly preferred: Concrete Field Testing Technician

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform advanced field testing and inspections for roadway construction activities, including earthwork, base, asphalt, concrete, and drainage systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on FDOT specifications, standards, and testing procedures
  • Review and validate field data, test results, and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Identify nonconforming materials or construction practices and provide clear recommendations for corrective action
  • Coordinate with contractors, project engineers, and stakeholders to resolve complex field issues
  • Oversee and support field technicians, providing mentorship, training, and quality guidance
  • Manage daily inspection priorities across multiple projects or phases, ensuring timely execution
  • Maintain and enforce quality control and documentation standards across all assigned work
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, risks, and project impacts for internal and client stakeholders
  • Support project planning, preconstruction meetings, and project closeout documentation
