About The Position

KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a highly motivated Senior Field Engineer with experience supporting transportation, roadway, bikeway, and public infrastructure projects. This individual will serve as the owner's representative in the field, coordinating daily construction activities, monitoring contractor performance, and ensuring project compliance with plans, specifications, schedule, and budget requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience with active transportation or roadway improvement projects and possess strong knowledge of construction management practices, public agency procedures, and California transportation standards.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of construction management, resident engineering, or field engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting roadway, bikeway, transportation, rail, or public works infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and field inspection practices.
  • Experience preparing daily reports and maintaining project records.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Caltrans Local Assistance Procedures Manual (LAPM) and federally funded transportation projects.
  • Experience with asphalt paving, grading, drainage, and roadway construction activities.
  • Previous experience working with or supporting agencies such as: Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA / Metrolink), Los Angeles County Flood Control District, Local municipalities and transportation agencies.
  • Familiarity with public agency construction management procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Certifications such as EIT, PE, CCM, or PMP are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day field oversight of construction activities for a bikeway improvement project.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed daily construction reports, field logs, and project documentation.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact between the client, contractor, design team, and stakeholders.
  • Attend, coordinate, and facilitate project meetings, progress meetings, and field coordination meetings.
  • Review contractor schedules, work plans, submittits, RFIs, and change order requests.
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing activities, utility relocations, and stakeholder communications.
  • Track project issues, identify potential risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with project scheduling, cost tracking, and construction documentation management.
  • Support project closeout activities, punch lists, and final acceptance processes.
