About The Position

This is a Full Time position supporting the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) filling a Senior Field Engineer position as a Gas Turbine Technician (GS) on the SDTS, located at Port Hueneme, California. The role involves extensive hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational support for gas turbine systems, including supporting underway evolutions and acting as a member of the ship's Damage Control Fire Party.

Requirements

  • Technical degree and 7 to 9 years of gas turbine experience OR no degree and 11-13 years of experience as a Navy GS.
  • Experience with gas turbine mechanical, electrical, electronics, maintenance and operations.
  • Ability to use test equipment for troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Ability to support the integration and installation of Navy/COTS systems/equipment.
  • Ability to work independently completing onboard maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand EOSS procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical equipment to determine root cause failure modes.
  • Ability to mentor subordinates and provide training instructions.
  • Ability to support overnight underway evolutions (includes regular housekeeping/cleaning).
  • Ability to take log readings and stand underway watches.
  • Basic computer Microsoft Office skills (word processing, spreadsheets, data entry).
  • Must serve as member of ship’s Damage Control Fire Party.
  • Valid driver’s license with own transportation.
  • No criminal record and ability to satisfactorily complete background check.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Able to write, speak and understand English.
  • Able to complete STCW Basic Training courses.
  • Able to obtain TWIC Card and Coast Guard MMC.
  • Able to complete Coast Guard Physical exam.

Nice To Haves

  • EOOW, PACC, or EPCC Qualifications.
  • Experience and competence in US Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Knowledge of the operation of LM2500 Gas Turbine propulsion systems and Allison 501 K-17/34 Gas Turbine Generators and their associated support and auxiliary systems.
  • GSE/GSM “C” School.
  • Experience with CG-47 or DD-963 class ships.
  • Experience with and troubleshooting Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems.
