The Opportunity In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. The Project Manager will Lead end‑to-end delivery of complex, multi‑disciplinary capital facilities projects—overseeing scope, design, budgeting, execution, vendor/contractor management, risk, safety, and compliance—while aligning investments to business strategy, ensuring on‑time/on‑budget outcomes, and serving as a trusted SME and mentor across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science or closely related project management discipline is desired; Advanced degrees acceptable
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in engineering, operations, and/or project management with a strong record of delivering complex programs
  • Demonstrated excellence in project planning, financial controls, forecasting, and project accounting; proficiency with procurement and contracting processes.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; proven success leading cross‑functional teams in fast‑paced environments.
  • Deep facilities and plant engineering background, including MEP/HVAC, boilers/chillers, process gases/water, utilities, and building envelope systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with commissioning, startup, and turnover of facility assets.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in highly regulated industries (healthcare, medical devices, diagnostics, or pharmaceuticals) preferred.
  • Project management certification preferred (e.g., PMP or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Lead Complex Capital Projects Manage all phases of project execution—from scope development, design, and budgeting to scheduling, implementation, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Use established Front End Planning (FEP) PM tools, cash flow projections, schedule/budget/scope control, etc.) to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Develop project strategies that align with business goals and support long term organizational success.
  • Writes and submits Requests for Capital Expenditures (RCEs) and associated package materials Manage collaboration with internal teams, external contractors, and multidisciplinary resources while ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Facilities & Plant Engineering Focus Lead small, medium, and large capital projects involving building and infrastructure systems.
  • Manage projects involving: Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems Chillers, boilers, and HVAC systems Process gases and process water Lighting, flooring, rigging, and utility systems Building envelope integrity (roof, structural, façade) Parking lot and site improvements Ensure facility designs deliver long-term value, reliability, maintainability, and minimal infrastructure load.
  • Vendor, Contractor & Procurement Leadership Collaborate on and maintain strategic vendor partnerships and support contract negotiation in collaboration with corporate purchasing.
  • Evaluate supplier qualifications, performance, compliance, and adherence to engineering and safety standards.
  • Manage the contractor bidding process to ensure consistency, integrity, and completeness of the contractor bids.
  • Benchmark internally and externally to drive continuous improvement in vendor performance and facility outcomes.
  • Strategic Influence Contribute to development of division-wide project management strategies, tools, and methodologies.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, EHS, finance, and procurement to align on priorities and best practices.
  • Mentor and guide teams within and across divisions to elevate project management capability and technical excellence.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for facilities project delivery.
  • Risk Management & Problem Solving Anticipate, identify, and mitigate tactical and strategic risks through early assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Solve complex project and construction challenges by applying advanced project management principles and innovative approaches.
  • Governance, Compliance & Safety Ensure projects comply with all relevant local and national regulations and standards, including Abbott engineering standards and corporate requirements from Global Environmental, Health, and Safety (GEHS) and Global Engineering Services (GES).
  • Demonstrate full awareness of the potential consequences associated with design or engineering changes.
  • Additional Impact Areas Contribute to and collaborate with divisional project teams, task forces, and cross-functional improvement initiatives.
  • Coach others on capital expenditure documentation, safety checklists, scope documents, and other supporting processes.
  • Prepare and present project updates to senior leadership and diverse internal stakeholders
