Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required; Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 8-10 years related work experience required.
  • 15-20 years of construction management experience is acceptable in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in the construction project management with a working knowledge of all phases of capital project implementation including planning, design, construction, start-up and closeout.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Project required.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Computer Assisted Design (CAD) and Computer Assisted Facilities Management (CAFM) systems.
  • Massachusetts registration as an Architect or Professional Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Facilities management team and/or directly with medical center senior management, as appropriate, to develop conceptual design from which decisions can be made as to the feasibility of projects both in terms of space planning and budget.
  • Participates with Department Management, senior administrators and User Representatives in project program planning, budget assumptions and initial space planning/fit testing/schematic layout. Serves as primary Facilities liaison on designated program planning/projects as directed by Department Management.
  • Develops a comprehensive Project Charter and detailed construction timeline consistent with the scope, budget and target completion date.
  • Reviews all project related documents from design to construction documents/shop drawings to ensure that the deliverables will be the best possible product, consistent with medical center standards and in keeping with scope and budget targets.
  • Manages design consultants, construction contractors and vendors. Serves as a lead with the architect, engineers and construction manager to ensure that the project is designed and built consistent with project scope, budget, and timeline. Works with design team to develop required paperwork and process to achieve Department of Public Health review and licensure approvals in a timely manner.
  • Manages construction consistent with budget and identifies both cost and timeline impact of Construction Change Orders, User Change Requests and/or other unforeseen issues. Completes final budget reconciliation upon project completion, resolves all outstanding invoices and analyzes project costs for use in future project planning/budget development.
  • Ensures compliance with routine inspections of the job sites to monitor compliance with the scope and design specifications, medical center standards, building code regulations, infection control measures, environmental safety interventions, and construction timeline.
  • Oversees all aspects of a project to ensure its success including the acquisition of equipment, furniture, and other items required to render the space operational. Ensures projects are coordinated across campuses with all parties to mitigate impacts with regards to fire alarm, building systems, egress, critical campus functions, etc.
  • Assumes a leadership role in working autonomously with medical center staff to solicit input and educate staff regarding construction impact, operations issues, and other safety concerns.
  • Works with Program Controls Group (PCG) to evaluate change order requests to recommend contractual equitable adjustments regarding time and money to Director. Helps PCG to prepare bid documents and evaluate proposals. Partners with PCG and Director to evaluated bid tabulations and recommend contractual reward to Director.
