About The Position

The Sr. Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and safety of various RFTA facilities and capital assets, ensuring they remain in good working condition. This role involves maintaining bus maintenance facilities, transportation hubs, RFTA bus stops, employee housing, office buildings, and other facilities as directed. The position requires collaboration with other departments and is expected to operate with autonomy, demonstrating strong decision-making skills. Additionally, the position supports the Facilities Management team in upholding high standards of safety, functionality, and performance.

Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills for equipment and facilities issues.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions from Safety Data Sheets (SDS), product labels, and safety manuals.
  • Solid knowledge of material handling, routine maintenance, and safe working practices.
  • Capable of safely operating all relevant equipment and machinery.
  • Mechanical aptitude to perform tasks related to facilities and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to organize and independently manage assigned tasks and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Proven knowledge of safe and effective construction, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical methods.
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English.
  • Basic Spanish proficiency is a plus.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in at least 4 of the following fields: painting, drywall, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, landscaping, heavy equipment operation, or electrical.
  • Experience with equipment such as bobcats, scissor lifts, forklifts, pickup trucks with plows, and other related tools.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all tasks are completed in compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections and walk-arounds, attend training meetings, and foster a culture of safety.
  • Operate vehicles in strict adherence to RFTA policies, directives, and all relevant traffic laws (Federal and Colorado).
  • Utilize the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to track, monitor, and maintain RFTA facilities, implementing preventative practices.
  • Perform general maintenance including cleaning, painting, and repairs related to electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fueling systems, bus wash, garage doors, and fluids management.
  • Perform daily maintenance on the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station and fueling systems.
  • Complete all required CNG Safety and Operational training and certifications.
  • Follow procurement best practices for ordering materials, tools, and services related to facilities maintenance.
  • Assist the Supervisor with planning and executing small construction projects, including remodeling and repairs.
  • Perform grounds maintenance duties such as lawn mowing and snow and ice removal.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, motorized vehicles, and light equipment as needed.
  • Control, contain, and clean up hazardous materials in accordance with safety standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to Custodial Staff or Facilities Maintenance Techs in the absence of the Supervisor.
  • Train new Facilities Maintenance Techs as required.
  • Be available to work at any location and provide on-call coverage for all facilities, including vacation and sick leave coverage.
  • Adhere to departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and standards, maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Report any relevant issues concerning employees, equipment, or performance to supervisors.
  • Continuously improve professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by attending relevant training sessions and seminars.
  • Attend and participate in routine safety meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Facilities Management team.
