About The Position

Terracon is seeking a senior-level engineer/architect/construction professional to join our Building Enclosure consulting practice in our East Bay office. This role involves working with local office leaders and Facilities Service Line technical professionals across the US to deliver essential services. The position emphasizes quality and client focus, providing architectural and consulting services for a wide range of projects. Responsibilities include leading field investigations, performing architectural/engineering analysis, developing plans and specifications, conducting observations and inspections, and preparing detailed reports. The role also involves reviewing construction for compliance, preparing proposals, managing project progress and budgets, resolving design and construction issues, and evaluating data for reports. The Senior Facilities Consultant will apply sound architectural/engineering principles and communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in various sectors including commercial, retail, multi-family, hotel, senior living, industrial, government, healthcare, education, and institutional.

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ of experience in building enclosure consulting, including but not limited to condition assessments, destructive investigations, system diagnostics, and remedial design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), or NCARB Registered Architect (RA) required.
  • B.S. in Engineering, B.S. in Architectural Engineering, or Bachelor of Architecture are required.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Nice To Haves

  • Credentials such as CEM, Cx, RRC, RWC, REWC, RBEC a plus.
  • Any specialization in Building Science is a plus.
  • Local market familiarity and awareness

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines.
  • Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices.
  • Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Responsible for continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects.
  • Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.
  • Responsible for providing consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery.
  • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company.
  • Engage with local Terracon office leaders and be a Facilities service representative.
  • Work with existing clients to obtain additional work and develop new clients.
  • Pick up service leads (internal and external) and communicate with clients to develop service opportunities into projects.
  • Manage or consult on facility consulting projects providing leadership and expertise to internal and external project teams.
  • Participate on and lead teams in the performance of building diagnostics projects that include, but are not limited to roofing, façade, waterproofing, foundations, MEP /HVAC system performance, litigation support, field testing, and distress studies.
  • Develop and/or review design construction documents related to rehabilitation or remedial building system projects based on our recommendations for system improvement.
  • Capable of analyzing all technical aspects of subject area, defining scope and selecting problems for investigation, developing novel concepts and approaches, and recommending major design changes.
  • Full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating engineering/architectural assignments involving unique or controversial problems which significantly affect projects.
  • Peer review construction documents, protocols, Scopes of Work, and other similar documents associated with various building system design and repair/restoration.
  • Perform and/or direct field testing and investigations for the diagnosis of building system issues related to condition, performance and service life.
  • Prepare and write reports that are professional in language with a logical presentation of technical ideas and recommendations.
  • Drive business with new and existing clients and actively participate in the implementation of marketing and client development strategies.
  • Prepare proposals, develop scope of services for all Facilities Service Line practice areas, establish fees, manage projects from personnel, financial and schedule standpoint.
  • Supervise and mentor less experienced Facilities division professionals to cross train and provide technical support on building enclosure services.
  • Participate in one or more technical/professional associations and assume leadership positions.
  • Play a leadership role in Terracon’s market for all Facilities engineering, consulting and testing services group.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to provide/receive constructive feedback.

  • Possess agility to jump between multiple projects, tasks, and priorities.
  • Possess excellent time management skills.
  • Serve as a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
