About The Position

Fillauer is hiring a full-time Senior Fabrication Technician in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Senior Fabrication Technician serves as a subject matter expert and technical leader within the fabrication team. This role provides advanced technical support, mentorship to junior technicians, and hands-on expertise in the fabrication of custom orthotic and prosthetic devices, with a primary focus on upper extremity prosthetic devices. The Senior Technician is expected to drive quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement within the lab.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in O&P preferred
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience in orthotic and/or prosthetic device fabrication
  • Demonstrated expertise in upper/lower extremity prosthetic and/or fabrication strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with shop hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment
  • Experience with lamination, thermoforming, and composite materials
  • Ability to read and interpret technicl documents, diagrams, and fabrication schematics
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for 8+ hours per day
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain safe work practices

Nice To Haves

  • ABC or BOC Technician Certification (CTPO, CFOM, or equivalent)
  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems used in O&P device design and fabrication
  • Experience in a medical device manufacturing or ISO-regulated environment
  • Prior experience in a training, lead, or senior technician role
  • Deep knowledge of O&P fabrication techniques, materials, and quality standards
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to precision and craftsmanship

Responsibilities

  • Work in a laboratory setting fabricating custom upper extremity prosthetic and orthotic devices to exacting specifications
  • Configure and construct devices to specifications established by a physician or other licensed health care provider
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, precision instruments, custom fixtures, drill presses, arbor presses, ovens, heat guns, and other light-duty equipment
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble defective or worn devices and appliances
  • Perform sewing and/or plastic thermoforming as required by device specifications
  • Interpret technical documents including diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and written/verbal instructions
  • Serve as technical lead and subject matter expert for complex prosthetic fabrication cases
  • Mentor, train, and provide day-to-day guidance to junior and mid-level fabrication technicians
  • Lead quality review of fabricated devices, identifying and resolving defects prior to clinical delivery
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians to optimize fit, function, comfort, and cosmetic outcomes for patients
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to fabrication processes, workflows, and equipment utilization
  • Assist in development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and fabrication best practices
  • Support onboarding and cross-training initiatives to build team capability and redundancy
  • Act as a resource for troubleshooting complex fabrication challenges and non-standard device configurations
  • Maintain safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment; lead by example in safety and housekeeping standards
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
