Senior Fabrication Estimator

Loenbro•Westminster, CO

About The Position

The Senior Fabrication Estimator is an experienced technical estimator responsible for complex fabrication pursuits across Loenbro’s fabrication capabilities. The role develops complete fabrication estimates, leads technical reviews, advises leadership and Operations, and mentors estimators without formal personnel-management responsibility. Estimates address material procurement, shop labor, equipment, subcontract services, quality requirements, and delivery. Structural steel and piping fabrication experience is preferred. Assignments are governed by technical complexity, risk, specialization, and review structure. The estimator leads pursuits from planning through proposal and turnover, establishes fabrication and delivery scope boundaries, and develops conceptual and detailed estimates. The role reviews drawings, specifications, models, bills of material, and fabrication details; develops quantities, labor factors, material pricing, production benchmarks, and estimating tools; and obtains and evaluates supplier and service-provider quotes. The Senior Fabrication Estimator also advises leadership and Operations on execution, capacity, procurement, risk, value engineering, and commercial position, while mentoring colleagues and leading estimate turnover and lessons learned. The position may involve travel to offices, client locations, and project sites. Work may include exposure to manufacturing, pipeline, and refining environments, temperature extremes, noise, odors, and areas with limited visibility. Physical activities may include walking on uneven terrain, standing, sitting, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and using a respirator if required.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of relevant estimating experience or equivalent directly applicable construction or shop fabrication experience.
  • Fabrication estimating experience, including material takeoff, shop labor development, supplier pricing, and fabrication methods.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex or high-risk pursuits with minimal oversight.
  • Advanced capability in fabrication cost development, estimate strategy, risk evaluation, QA/QC, and coordination with shop Operations, detailing, procurement, and project teams.
  • Ability to mentor others and influence consistent estimating practices.
  • Proficiency with estimating, digital takeoff, spreadsheet, reporting, and document-management systems.
  • Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, models, and specifications.
  • Ability to travel periodically to offices, client locations, and project sites.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability when driving is required.
  • Working knowledge of applicable fabrication codes and standards, welding requirements, material specifications, inspection and testing requirements, and their cost and schedule effects.

Nice To Haves

  • Structural steel and piping fabrication estimating experience, including structural drawings, connection details, piping isometrics, and pipe spool fabrication.
  • Experience with conceptual fabrication pricing, model-based quantity takeoff, and shop production planning.
  • Technical training, shop or field experience, or professional certification.
  • Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid and/or Tekla software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fabrication estimates from pursuit planning through proposal and turnover, defining shop fabrication, delivery, and any field-scope boundaries.
  • Review drawings, specifications, models, bills of material, and applicable fabrication details to establish quantities, requirements, scope gaps, and execution assumptions.
  • Lead estimate reviews and provide independent QA/QC, reconciling quantities, material costs, labor hours, exclusions, and pricing.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed estimates for fabricated products and assemblies, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontract services, and delivery.
  • Estimate cutting, forming, machining, fitting, welding, assembly, handling, and loading, as applicable, using documented shop production rates and fabrication requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes for raw materials, purchased components, detailing, coatings, specialty fabrication services, inspection, testing, freight, and other specification-required services.
  • Advise Operations and leadership on fabrication sequence, shop capacity, procurement lead times, material waste, risk, contingency, value engineering, and commercial position.
  • Mentor estimators and improve technical consistency without formal personnel-management responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain fabrication labor factors, material pricing, shop productivity benchmarks, weld quantities, historical cost data, and estimating tools and templates.
  • Lead estimate turnover and lessons learned, communicating the basis of estimate, production assumptions, procurement requirements, inclusions, exclusions, and delivery commitments.
