About The Position

This role involves taking automotive components from concept through to production, focusing on the integration of design, engineering, manufacturability, and quality. The Senior Exterior Trim Engineer will join a skilled engineering team working on next-generation vehicles, operating at the intersection of design, engineering, manufacturing, and vehicle integration. The position requires cross-functional collaboration with engineering, design, manufacturing, and suppliers, with ownership from early concepts through validation and launch. It's an environment that values technical knowledge, creativity, collaboration, and a drive for outstanding products.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience within automotive design and development
  • Strong hands-on experience designing plastic automotive components, interior or exterior
  • Proven vehicle launch experience
  • Experience working with automotive suppliers
  • Strong CAD skills, preferably CATIA V5 or V6
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic and/or thermoset resin materials
  • Solid understanding of validation testing and failure avoidance
  • A BSc in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline
  • Ability to enter a new organization, quickly understand how things are done and start contributing
  • Curious, self-driven and comfortable taking responsibility rather than waiting for detailed instructions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Class A surfaces, tooling, fit & finish, gap & flush, aerodynamics, lighting integration, thermal expansion, structural design and paint processes

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop exterior trim components from concept to production
  • Create complex CAD concepts and models, preferably using CATIA V5/V6
  • Engineer plastic components with focus on quality, functionality, weight, cost and manufacturability
  • Work with thermoplastic and thermoset materials and Class A manufacturing technologies
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, suppliers and other engineering teams
  • Drive validation, testing and failure avoidance throughout the development process
  • Support tooling, production readiness and vehicle launch
  • Solve complex packaging, integration and 3D engineering challenges
