About The Position

Provides advisement at the executive level to the Superintendent of Schools and the Chief of Schools and is responsible for administrative duties, related to school operations - climate, culture, and safety among the educational and business operations of the District.

Requirements

  • At least ten (10) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than five (5) years of which must have been in a position(s) requiring the Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential (Out-of-state applicants must qualify for and obtain a California credential prior to selection approval.)
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework

  • Leadership experience working with school and District-level administrators and cross-functional teams to solve significant District-wide operational and/or organizational challenges
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures, goals and objectives, organizational structure and functions, and negotiated collective bargaining agreements
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local legislation as it applies to K-12 education policies, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of applicable Education Code, the California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 5, the Government Code, and Board Rules
  • Knowledge of accepted principles of adult learning and professional development in the process of workforce planning and leadership development
  • Knowledge of effective administrative and managerial practices and demonstrated ability to implement them
  • Knowledge of and skill in effective budgetary processes and school finance
  • Leadership skill in facilitating group processes, including consensus building and conflict resolution among diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to provide administrative leadership at the senior executive level including decision-making, complex problem-solving, and delegation of authority
  • Ability to absorb, analyze, organize, and communicate information and policy implications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, local and state agencies, community partners, and bargaining unit representatives, colleagues, and other District personnel, both individually and as a group
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all racial, ethnic, disability, language, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to make formal, public presentations to Boards, community groups, and other governing or advisory committees
  • Ability to compose and comprehend written communication and reports
  • Ability to traverse all areas of District and school sites and external meeting locations
  • Ability to exercise high degree of judgment, discretion, and confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates communication and serves as a liaison between the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education and central office/local district/division administrators
  • Advises the Board of Education by providing data and preparing responses to correspondence and other inquiries on a wide range of District operational issues
  • Designs and implements the District's school operations and safety policies and programs in collaboration with the Chief of Schools
  • Serves as the Superintendent’s representative on professional, governmental, and community committees, task forces, commissions, and in problem-solving conferences with parents, community representatives, and District staff to address and implements strategies related to school operations/safety
  • Gathers information and prepares reports and correspondence to inform the superintendent and appropriate staff on various operational matters, including emergency situations
  • Serves as a member of the superintendent’s senior staff
  • As requested by the superintendent, plans agendas for, provides for staff participation, and communicates results of various meetings
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinate personnel
  • Performs related duties as assigned
