The Senior Estimator must work closely with the Business Unit Leader to manage preconstruction projects and assigned estimating personnel. The Senior Estimator is responsible for soliciting bids from qualified subcontractors, building a solid subcontractor database, and engaging with the subcontractor community. Key responsibilities include budget development/submission, detailed and comprehensive quantity takeoff, accurate cost evaluation, subcontractor/supplier bid solicitation, subcontractor/supplier scope, qualification and cost evaluations, risk evaluation, and bid submission. The overall focus is to ensure that Thornton bids and proposals are competitive and have the greatest chance of winning, using experience, leadership skills, and knowledge of fundamental preconstruction processes to actively lead and manage preconstruction department staff. The role involves identifying and mitigating risk, building subcontractor/supplier databases and relationships, managing the standardization and submission of preconstruction correspondence, performing and/or managing qualification, solicitation, quantity survey, scheduling, scoping, clarifying, and pricing efforts for assigned projects. The Senior Estimator will prepare qualified and clarified conceptual budgets, ensure the flow of preconstruction information, stay informed about cost-affecting information, coordinate business development and qualification correspondence, maintain data on construction and material cost trends, analyze alternative means and methods, serve as a point of contact for potential clients, and build effective relationships with customers, design teams, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups. Active participation in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image is also expected.
