Senior Estimator - Earthwork

Tutor Perini•Sylmar, CA

About The Position

Tutor Perini Corporation is seeking a Senior Estimator specializing in earthwork for its Sylmar, California office. The role is responsible for preparing complete and accurate cost estimates for major earthwork and site development projects, including mass grading, excavation, embankment construction, site preparation, soil stabilization, haul operations, and related heavy civil infrastructure work. The estimator leads the estimating and bid process from concept through final submission, applying industry knowledge and analytical skills to ensure accurate, efficient, and competitive bids. The position requires hands-on experience bidding major infrastructure and earthwork projects. The estimator gathers plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, historical bid files, and job-cost information; coordinates quantity takeoffs with takeoff engineers and mentors assigned engineers; and travels to jobsites and pre-bid meetings as required. The role develops understanding of project-specific plans, specifications, site conditions, grading requirements, excavation limits, and construction challenges. It also solicits and documents subcontractor, trucking, equipment, and material quotes; contributes to preliminary schedules and general-conditions pricing; and evaluates labor productivity, equipment production rates, earthwork balancing, haul distances, and project requirements. The position prepares detailed estimates for mass excavation, embankment, grading, site development, erosion control, dewatering, soil improvement, and related earthwork activities. It assembles organized bid packages and estimate files, completes estimates with adequate time for senior management review, evaluates geotechnical reports, haul routes, borrow sources, disposal sites, and material quantities, and analyzes production methods, equipment spreads, and sequencing to identify risks and cost-saving opportunities.
