Senior ERP Technical Engineer

Votaw Precision Technologies LLCSanta Fe Springs, CA
$140,000 - $170,000Hybrid

About The Position

Vaylent is a Cerberus-backed aerospace and defense manufacturing platform building the enterprise infrastructure, capabilities, and operational foundation to support a growing network of manufacturing companies, including Votaw Precision Technologies. Through its operating companies, Vaylent supports demanding aerospace, defense, and industrial programs by combining advanced manufacturing expertise with scalable business and technology infrastructure. The Senior ERP Technical Engineer is the senior hands-on technical resource for Vaylent’s Epicor environment. The role designs, builds, integrates, upgrades, documents, and supports the technical layer of the ERP that runs day-to-day aerospace and defense manufacturing operations across the operating companies. This is a build-and-support role rather than a coordination role. The incumbent works directly in the system — writing queries and business process methods, building integrations and reports, planning upgrades, and resolving defects — and is expected to establish internal technical capability that reduces the organization’s reliance on external specialists over time. The role also carries technical responsibility for ERP data migration and consolidation as the platform acquires and integrates additional companies. For purposes of this role, scope consists of the technical layer of Vaylent’s ERP and its directly related integrations, reporting, and data. Functional process design, roadmap direction, and platform decisions rest with the Senior Director, Enterprise Applications and the Chief Information Officer. Applications and infrastructure outside this scope remain under the ownership and governance designated by the Chief Information Officer.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of hands-on ERP technical experience, including substantial Epicor experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or supporting digital work instructions, electronic travelers, shop-floor data collection, or comparable MES-enabled manufacturing workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with Epicor Functions, BPMs, BAQs, Application Studio, REST APIs, and other supported Kinetic extensibility frameworks.
  • Hands-on Epicor Kinetic experience, including Application Studio and modernization or migration of Classic customizations to supported Kinetic patterns.
  • Strong SQL skills, including query development, stored procedures, performance troubleshooting, and reporting against an ERP data model.
  • Experience building and supporting ERP integrations using supported interfaces such as REST services, service connect, or middleware platforms.
  • Experience planning and executing ERP upgrades or version migrations in an environment with existing customizations.
  • Experience supporting ERP in a manufacturing environment, including production, inventory, quality, and shop floor transactions.
  • Ability to document technical work to a standard that allows another engineer to support it.
  • Ability to work directly with manufacturing and finance users and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • U.S. Person as defined by ITAR, 22 CFR 120.62.

Nice To Haves

  • Aerospace, defense, federal contracting, or other regulated manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing execution and product lifecycle management platforms and their integration to ERP.
  • Experience with ERP data migration and system consolidation during acquisitions.
  • Experience implementing application-layer controls supporting NIST SP 800-171 or CMMC Level 2.
  • C#, .NET, PowerShell, or comparable development experience.
  • Experience with source control and structured change management for ERP technical artifacts.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior technical engineering resource for the Epicor environment, including its data model, customizations, BPMs, BAQs, dashboards, forms, digital work instructions, integrations, and reporting.
  • Own the technical implementation and ongoing support of digital work instructions and shop-floor workflows, including electronic travelers, operator instructions, data collection, forms, approvals, and related Epicor and MES functionality.
  • Design, build, test, document, and support Epicor customizations, business activity queries, business process methods, dashboards, forms, and user-defined fields against documented requirements.
  • Build and maintain integrations between Epicor and other business and manufacturing systems, including manufacturing execution, product lifecycle management, quality, shipping, and financial systems, using supported interfaces and documented data contracts.
  • Own Epicor environment management, including development, test, and production environments, refresh procedures, and code promotion.
  • Establish and maintain technical change-management practices across development, test, and production, including source control, peer review where appropriate, deployment documentation, rollback procedures, regression testing, and release traceability.
  • Develop and maintain repeatable regression testing for critical ERP workflows and customizations, using Epicor test automation capabilities or comparable automated testing tools where appropriate.
  • Plan and execute Epicor upgrades, patches, and version migrations, including impact analysis of existing customizations, regression testing, and remediation.
  • Develop and maintain reporting and analytics against Epicor data, including SQL views, stored procedures, SSRS and Crystal reports, and extracts supporting operational and financial reporting.
  • Lead technical execution of data migration and system consolidation for acquisitions and new site standups, including extraction, cleansing, mapping, load, and reconciliation.
  • Reduce customization debt by evaluating existing modifications against standard functionality and retiring or replacing customizations that are no longer justified.
  • Document the technical environment to a standard that allows another qualified engineer to support it, including customization inventories, integration maps, data dictionaries, and runbooks.
  • Capture and internalize technical knowledge currently held by external specialists and reduce single-person and third-party dependency across the Epicor environment.
  • Support application-layer controls in the Epicor environment, including role and permission design, service account management, audit logging, segregation of duties, and export-controlled data handling in support of CMMC Level 2, NIST SP 800-171, ITAR, and DFARS obligations.
  • Provide technical direction to external Epicor specialists and implementation partners, including specification of work, technical review, and acceptance of delivered configuration and code.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for Epicor incidents and defects, and lead root-cause analysis for issues affecting production operations.
  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and finance users to translate business process requirements into supported technical solutions rather than one-off workarounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.
