About The Position

Morgan Stanley is a leading global financial services firm. The Ultra-High Net-Worth (UHNW) Planning team, within the Financial Planning department of Morgan Stanley’s Global Investment Office, focuses on UHNW and Institutional clients. This team is dedicated to providing financial planning strategies and developing tools to quantify the impact of these strategies for clients. As the largest stock plan recordkeeper globally, Morgan Stanley aims to be the foremost expert in equity compensation guidance for executives. The UHNW Planning team is central to delivering this education and guidance to corporate employees and executives. The Senior Equity Compensation Planner is crucial in helping clients and Financial Advisors (FAs) maximize the value of their equity compensation. This role involves acting as a technical expert and strategic partner to FAs and Morgan Stanley at Work teams, delivering equity compensation planning and actionable insights to clients and prospective participants. By combining expertise in equity award structures, tax implications, and financial planning, the planner helps clients integrate their equity awards into their overall wealth strategies. The role utilizes industry-leading software to visualize executive compensation strategies, analyze cash takeaway and tax impact, and provide guidance on liquidation timing. The position requires comfort in presenting to both small and large groups, with extensive engagement with financial advisors and their clients, including occasional branch-wide and company-wide presentations.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of broad-based financial planning experience, with 2+ years in dedicated equity compensation planning experience
  • CFP or CEP designation
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • General understanding of global financial markets, asset allocation, and portfolio construction
  • Series 7 and 66 licensed required or completion within 6 months of hire
  • Undergraduate degree required

Responsibilities

  • Build and deliver detailed equity compensation plans for clients and prospects, leveraging internal modeling tools
  • Analyze clients' equity holdings, vesting schedules, and award types (RSUs, PSUs, stock options, ESPPs, SARs) to evaluate value realization, diversification, and liquidity strategies
  • Act as a specialist extension of Financial Advisor teams, collaborating to deliver personalized presentations and strategic recommendations
  • Participate in client meetings, webinars, and education sessions as the firm’s equity compensation subject-matter expert
  • Mentor junior planners or analysts to build the next generation of equity compensation expertise within the firm
