About The Position

The City of Bowie is seeking a motivated and dependable Senior Equipment Operator in the Stormwater Management and Utilities Division. The successful candidate will perform construction, maintenance, landscaping, and snow removal activities throughout the City. The role requires knowledge of the rules and precautions needed to operate specialized heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including backhoes, loaders, tractors, commercial mowing equipment, and truck-mounted snowplows. Applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. Applicants who are not registered will not be considered. A completed City of Bowie employment application is required. The application deadline is November 6, 2026.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Two years of experience operating heavy equipment.
Valid Maryland CDL B license.
Experience performing heavy manual labor in a construction, maintenance, landscaping, or related environment.
Knowledge of trench safety and confined space entry procedures.
Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Registration with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
Submit a completed City of Bowie employment application.

Nice To Haves

Experience in horticulture, landscaping, or grounds maintenance.
Commercial mowing experience.
Experience performing semi-skilled construction or maintenance work.
Knowledge of and ability to safely use standard hand and power tools.
