About The Position

As a Senior Equipment Engineer, you will bring your hands on expertise to develop new equipment, improve current equipment designs and equipment documentation, manage equipment projects, and perform root cause analysis of non-conforming equipment. This role will contribute to company projects by developing new/modified fixtures, supporting the Production line via fixture improvements/troubleshooting/NCMRs, leading internal equipment improvement initiatives, and working with suppliers to develop new complex fixtures. An ideal candidate will have the ability to design and develop complex fixtures, be able drive projects to closure, be an excellent cross-functional collaborator, and capable of handling multiple responsibilities at once.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) with 5+ years’ experience or MS with 3+ years in mechanical design and/or manufacturing
  • Experience leading and supporting equipment projects in a medical device manufacturing or capital equipment manufacturing environment in a similarly regulated industry
  • Ability to rapid prototype and iterate on equipment designs quickly
  • Experience with 3D printing
  • Strong understanding of equipment design intent and design requirements
  • Strong abilities in mechanical drawings and 3D modeling
  • Understanding of electrical principles
  • Understanding of hand tools used for assembling fixtures
  • Understanding of project management.
  • Ability to develop and write a test protocol
  • Ability to write a lab/engineering report
  • Understanding of root cause analysis to troubleshoot mechanical assemblies and manufacturing processes
  • Excellent computer skills with specific skills in Microsoft Office and SolidWorks.
  • Basic coding experience, preferably in support of equipment automation applications
  • A strong understanding of manufacturing principles
  • Machine design and automation systems.
  • Root cause analysis and process problem-solving.

Nice To Haves

  • A strong understanding of Milling machines, Lathes, and Bandsaws would be a plus
  • Experience with microcontrollers would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Apply experience in mechanical design (ideally in manufacturing applications) to develop new equipment and develop upgrades/improvements to current equipment, specifically with ergonomics, reliability, and Production scale in mind.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of equipment documentation and processes.
  • Revise equipment documentation to improve equipment repeatability and robustness.
  • Update the equipment control systems for equipment that you revise or implement.
  • Provide test equipment solutions that prioritize throughput, ergonomics, and repeatability.
  • Develop or work with outside vendors to develop automated solutions for testing product.
  • Prove repeatability of test methods by authoring Gauge R&R protocols, executing the protocols, and analyzing the data before writing clear and concise reports.
  • Assess unusual circumstances using sophisticated analytical techniques.
  • Identify the root cause of problems and apply advanced problem-solving methodologies to resolve them effectively.
  • Resolve a wide range of issues creatively, suggesting variations in approach when necessary.
  • Support the Production line by determining the root cause of equipment non-conformances.
  • Work on problems of diverse scope where information analysis requires evaluating identifiable factors by identifying and resolving technical issues that arise during the design and testing phases.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with equipment and automation designs and implementing measures to mitigate these risks.
  • Work closely with other engineers, including R&D Engineers, manufacturing engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers to integrate different components into the design and ensure compatibility.
  • Mentor more junior engineers, helping them develop their engineering skills and supporting their projects as needed to help them grow as team members.
  • Provide training and technical support to manufacturing personnel or end-users to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment and automation systems.
  • Manage projects related to equipment or automation design, including setting timelines, allocating resources, and tracking progress to ensure timely delivery of deliverables.
  • Maintain trained status for, and comply with, all relevant aspects of the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality Management System to ensure product and support regulatory compliance.
  • Understand and adhere to the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality and EHS policies.
  • Support manufacturing personnel through training and troubleshooting.
