About The Position

VHB is actively seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to join their New England team. This role involves leading and supporting the preparation of federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) documentation, as well as permitting applications, for a diverse range of clients including municipalities, transportation agencies, airports, energy firms, and private developers. VHB specializes in providing comprehensive environmental services, including technical analyses, long-term planning, and strategic environmental permitting, aiming to meet regulatory standards, advance sustainability, and understand the impacts of the built environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing sustainable solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects and will lead diverse teams in environmental planning and permitting. The environmental services offered by VHB's team include environmental permitting, sustainability and resilience planning, energy policy, climate action planning, net-zero emissions strategies, climate vulnerability assessments, urban and regional planning, solid waste management, air quality and noise studies, natural resource stewardship, water conservation, historic resource management, and community engagement. Candidates with a deep understanding and interest in these areas are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. in environmental planning, urban planning, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of NEPA and MEPA (or similar state processes) as it relates to Transportation/DOT or similar projects.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in environmental consulting or related field required.

  • Masters a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical reviews associated with natural, human, and cultural resource analyses related to NEPA/MEPA.
  • Coordinate with clients and manage environmental projects including technical subconsultants.
  • Drive business development activities including preparing scopes of work, fee estimates, and schedules.
  • Review environmental studies and work prepared by others.
  • Prepare environmental documentation and presentations.
  • Manage environmental scopes and budgets amongst a diverse range of technical resource groups.
  • Oversee the facilitation of stakeholder meetings, public workshops, and public hearings.
  • Coach and/or mentor skills.
  • Travel occasionally.
