About The Position

Skeena Gold + Silver Limited is seeking a Senior Environmental Monitor to provide mentorship and technical guidance to Environmental Monitors and Environmental Technicians. This role supports consultants, contractors, and project personnel in achieving environmental compliance objectives. The position requires extensive environmental field experience and demonstrated expertise across multiple disciplines, including surface water, groundwater, air quality, vegetation, wildlife, reclamation, and environmental monitoring programs. The Senior Environmental Monitor will be part of a collaborative and innovative team dedicated to operating safely, protecting the environment, and creating lasting benefits for local communities.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental monitoring experience in mining, construction, infrastructure, energy, or other industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting surface water and groundwater monitoring and sampling programs.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring programs related to wildlife, vegetation, invasive species, air quality, meteorology, reclamation, and sediment management.
  • Experience collecting, managing, and maintaining environmental field data and environmental databases.
  • Experience preparing environmental monitoring reports, compliance documentation, and regulatory submissions.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and train junior staff.
  • Experience working safely and effectively in remote field environments and active construction settings.
  • Strong understanding of environmental monitoring principles, field methodologies, and sampling techniques.
  • Sound knowledge of environmental regulations, permits, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple environmental monitoring programs simultaneously.
  • Strong technical writing, data analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and operate safely in remote environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental stewardship, workplace safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting mine construction and/or operational mining projects.
  • Experience conducting ML/ARD monitoring and sampling programs.
  • Experience supporting Environmental Assessment Certificate (EAC) and permit compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with environmental databases, GIS applications, GPS equipment, and digital field data collection platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous Environmental Monitors and stewardship programs.
  • Experience supporting environmental audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting activities.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems, including ISO 14001.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surface water monitoring and sampling programs in accordance with approved monitoring plans, permits, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct groundwater monitoring activities, including water level measurements and groundwater sampling programs.
  • Perform meteorological and climate monitoring activities, including the inspection, maintenance, and operation of monitoring stations.
  • Conduct snow course surveys and snowpack monitoring programs.
  • Complete sediment sampling and environmental baseline monitoring activities.
  • Perform air quality monitoring and support fugitive dust management and mitigation programs.
  • Support environmental inspections, compliance monitoring, and environmental oversight activities throughout active construction areas.
  • Conduct wildlife monitoring activities and document wildlife observations, incidents, and interactions.
  • Support wildlife mitigation, exclusion, salvage, and monitoring programs, as required.
  • Conduct vegetation monitoring, including invasive plant identification, mapping, and management activities.
  • Support reclamation monitoring programs and vegetation establishment assessments.
  • Assist with habitat assessments and environmental protection initiatives.
  • Collect, validate, and manage environmental monitoring data.
  • Maintain accurate field records, chain-of-custody documentation, and environmental databases.
  • Compile monitoring results and prepare weekly, monthly, and project-specific environmental reports.
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements and compliance documentation.
  • Assist with data analysis, trend evaluation, and interpretation of environmental monitoring results.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to Environmental Monitors and Environmental Technicians.
  • Support the onboarding, training, and professional development of new environmental personnel.
  • Promote environmental awareness, compliance, and stewardship among employees and contractors.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental monitoring procedures and best management practices.
  • Support environmental consultants and contractors conducting monitoring programs, field investigations, and technical studies.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of seasonal environmental monitoring programs.
  • Coordinate field activities to ensure environmental monitoring requirements are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project commitments.
