About The Position

The Senior EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) serves as an environmental, health and safety professional on-site at the Valmont facility in Brenham, TX. This position requires individual initiative on special projects to complete a wide variety of tasks that are part of Valmont's comprehensive EHS initiatives, this includes leading site level EHS teams and initiatives. This position will manage and lead implementation of Valmont's Health and Safety Playbook and Environmental and Sustainability Playbook and safety related teams for the site. The Senior EHS Specialist must be able to align the site's EHS activities with Valmont's overall enterprise-wide EHS strategies. The incumbent is responsible for detecting sub-standard EHS performance using leading and lagging indicators and act in conjunction with appropriate site and regional leadership teams. It is critical that the Senior EHS Specialist assists others in their growth and knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety practices. It is expected that the Senior EHS Specialist will interact with site production employees to identify and control hazards that can result in harm. This is an on-site professional exemption salaried position.

Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in relevant EHS program with 5+ years of EHS or related experience or Associate's degree with 7+ years of EHS or related experience or 9+ years EHS experience.
  • EHS experience with the implementation and maintenance of environmental, health and safety programs, fire prevention, sustainability and risk management
  • Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and deliver results to members of all levels of the organization
  • Strong aptitude with electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and technical computer systems
  • Track record of making effective decisions, even when dealing with limited or ambiguous information
  • Ability to lead or support corporate, division, business unit and site teams responsible for managing EHS risks
  • High degree of integrity and timeliness when completing tasks

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Global companies with progressive EHS programs
  • Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) or ISO 45001, 14001 desired
  • Prior experience with Intelex systems
  • Hold one or more accredited professional Safety, Environmental, Fire Protection, Industrial certifications
  • Prior experience implementing and/or maintaining an enterprise-wide database system
  • Experience in a similar heavy manufacturing industry

Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, and manages continuous improvement efforts to facilitate EHS strategic initiatives and site-specific environmental, health and safety targets and objectives for the site to measurably reduce exposure to the site's most significant health and safety risks and environmental impacts
  • Leads the deployment of environment, health and safety teams (e.g., Safety Committee, etc.) and facilitates their engagement in ownership of the activities required to maintain compliance, reduce the site's environment footprint and drive continuous improvement
  • Manages plant EHS Best Practice Programs (BSP), as well as apply, evaluate, revise, and communicate site specific EHS policies; coordinate with team members and stakeholders as needed
  • Manages all aspects of existing site training programs which include instruction, recordkeeping, content management, planning and development to ensure that required environmental, health and safety requirements are met in a quality fashion
  • Manages the results for day-to-day adherence to company directed Safety KPIs & plan for future actions to stay above indicated targets
  • Conducts collection, data entry, analysis and facilitation of Environmental Social and Governance deliverables; to include waste, permitting and sustainability programs
  • Functions as a site level expert in the company's Environment, Health and Safety information management system to manage data related to EHS events such as injuries, workers compensation claims, near-miss incidents and internal and external inspections, and environmental permits
  • Leads the risk assessment process to recognize, evaluate, and control hazards throughout the site
  • Manage injury, near miss, property damage, and hazard investigations; lead root cause analysis sessions and aggressively pursue above-the-line corrective action implementation. This includes verifying all data collected is accurate and presented in a clear, concise, professional manner
  • Manages processes for selection and use of EHS equipment, own plant PPE programs and related information systems
  • Leads the team-based incident investigation process to drive appropriate root cause and corrective actions
  • Collects data for reporting and permit submittals for multi-media environmental regulatory requirements
  • Supports the EHS Manager by meticulously completing assigned standardized deliverables and contributing to the strategic growth of the EHSS department by recommending modifications to routines based upon business needs
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks, projects, and all other duties assigned
  • Occasionally requires work beyond typical business hours to include weekends and holidays if necessary
  • Serves as a liaison between regional and site management, risk management and human resources on applicable topics
  • Develops and supports implementation of emergency management and business continuity programs
  • Formulates and implements actions on various EHS topics, as necessary, and shares updates with leadership
  • Ensure training programs are developed and implemented to ensure regulatory compliance and incident best practices
  • Stay current with EHS/property conservation regulations and standards
