About The Position

L3Harris Technologies i s seeking a highly motivated, experienced Senior Environmental Health & Safety Engineer . In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring company environment, health and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental health and safety regulations, work to reduce company risk and liability in all aspects of EHS, and assist in a variety of duties to include daily safety interactions, sampling, observations, training and inspections. Works with stakeholders in the organization during space planning, building expansions and/or other changes in facilities or work areas to ensure EHS requirements and regulations are met. Assists with root cause analysis when EHS incidents occur and recommends corrective action where environmental, health and safety hazards exist. Responsible for monitoring, driving, and reporting on sustainability initiatives. The ideal candidate will ensure that safety procedures and rules are followed on the manufacturing floor, as well as at the off-site assembly and processing areas. L3Harris is a prime tactical and strategic missile target system provider supporting ballistic missile defense testing. High-Fidelity Air-Launched one, two, and three stage ballistic missile targets are their primary product line. This position is located in Orlando, Florida with occasional travel to Cape Canaveral (<5%).

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and minimum of 6 years’ experience in safety, health and environment programs.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior EH&S related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior EH&S related experience.
  • Full understanding of OSHA General Industry safety and health standards is required ( Confined Spaces, Fall Protection, Lock Out Tag Out, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety NFPA 70E and Propellant, Energetics & Pyrotechnics).
  • Familiar with root cause analysis, office and industrial ergonomics, industrial hygiene monitoring, SDS reviews and interpretations, and incident investigation methodology.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast paced, ever-changing work environment.
  • Ability to climb 25 foot vertical ladder, lift 25lb, and perform limited work/inspections at heights
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment along with a standard office setting, and able to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • The use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and others as deemed necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Hazardous waste management experience (current RCRA and DOT training preferred).
  • Experience/knowledge of Environmental regulations (i.e., air, water/storm-water, waste, SPCC, EPCRA/SARA) including permitting and compliance.
  • Experience with life safety programs (Confined space, control of hazardous energy, hot work, working at heights, etc.).
  • Prior Industrial Hygiene experience
  • Familiar with the generation and maintenance of Job Safety Assessments and Hazard Logs.
  • Professional designation preferred (ASP, CSP, CIH or CHMM)
  • Confident and comfortable addressing safety behavior of all levels of personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (written & oral), with ability to resolve conflict, work with and as a team, be flexible and adaptable, have above average problem solving and analytical skills, and be proactive.
  • Knowledgeable in munitions, explosives, and energetic materials, and related disciplines, the effects of munitions, the means of preventing or reducing explosive mishaps, and the relationship between quantity-distance siting criteria and personnel safety.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882, AFSPCMAN 91-710, or equivalent System Safety methodology preferred.
  • Stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, stopping, crouching, and/or bending in a manufacturing environment; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • The ability and willingness to occasionally work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (e.g. Word, Excel)

Responsibilities

  • Works with supervision and employees in applying occupational health, facility safety, ergonomics, emergency preparedness, and hazardous waste management.
  • Activities are performed in accordance with organization and program standards and procedures to foster a positive safety culture.
  • Works with regulatory agencies, and other Aerojet Rocketdyne site and external occupational safety professionals.
  • Conducts area inspections and audits and evaluates the impact of emerging issues and regulations on company operations to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies in regard to safety, health, and environmental requirements to maintain 100% regulatory and company policy requirements.
  • Performs health and safety evaluations, investigations and methodologies for continual improvement and prevention of employee injuries/illnesses and hardware/process improvements throughout the site.
  • Coordinates resolutions, evaluates engineering design and performs safety analyses, ensuring appropriate selection of control measures and hazard mitigation.
  • Plans, develops, directs and assesses programs to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, with emphasis on facility safety programs and associated monitoring.
  • Evaluates existing or emergent risk management control technologies and provides information, regulatory interpretation, and technical expertise to management and employees.
