About The Position

The Role At GM environmental, we are geared towards developing creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. As an environmental engineer at Milford Proving Ground, you will have the opportunity to lead the air, waste, and water compliance programs and be responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk. You will work collaboratively with diverse groups to create and implement best in class, sustainable solutions to improvement environmental compliance and sustainability across the site. We are currently looking for talented individuals who have a passion for the environment and who want to help make the facility a leader in environmental compliance and sustainability. This position is an experienced technical position for a Senior Environmental Engineer. A Senior Environmental Engineer works independently and is capable of managing new or complicated issues with collaboration as needed with other subject matter experts and functional areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Engineering or related sciences field.
  • 5 years’ experience in Environmental Engineering.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Air Permitting and/or Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements or related media.
  • Experienced in at least one of the main environmental programs (air permits and regulation, water permits and regulations, or waste regulations) with demonstrated expertise in more than one environmental discipline or a highly developed ability in one specialty area.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading, managing or overseeing small teams and/or contracted environmental service providers is preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and/or non-manufacturing operations, with multiple rotations between environmental programs (air, water, waste) and/or between locations.
  • Passion for promoting and maintaining wildlife habitat projects and certifications.
  • Experience with chemical reviews and approvals.
  • Highly developed ability in waste compliance and regulations.
  • Experience with project management and understanding of UST/AST systems and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing/maintaining/supporting robust and consistent environmental stewardship program strategies in support of GM’s mission to deliver sustainable solutions that improve the communities in which we live and work.
  • Manage environmental compliance and conformance programs across multiple media and platforms.
  • Manage a team of contract waste management and chemical management professionals.
  • Engage with Domain Experts as necessary to ensure continual improvement and support new program/project implementation.
  • Key collaboration with site management and employees, Facilities Managers, regulatory agencies, internal and external community leaders and members, legal staff, GM and external audit services, utility service providers, Project Planning teams at the site & HQ, domain experts and chemical and resource management business partners.
