Sr Environmental Engineer

Onterris•USA-NY-Remote, NY
•$120,000 - $175,000

About The Position

Onterris is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer with an active New York Professional Engineer license to provide technical engineering and project leadership for environmental assessment, remediation, and National Brownfields projects. The position primarily supports the New York team while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the United States. It covers the lifecycle of contaminated-site work, from environmental due diligence and site characterization through alternatives evaluation, engineering design, demolition and redevelopment planning, remedial implementation, construction, and site closure. Projects include historic and industrial properties with challenges such as petroleum, chlorinated solvents, metals, PCBs, vapor intrusion, contaminated soil and groundwater, regulated building materials, demolition, and remedial construction. Work may involve remote and logistically challenging sites, including opportunities for field travel to Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. In New York, projects may combine investigation and remediation with demolition, site grading, infrastructure improvements, fill management, wetlands, and future development. The role combines independent technical work, multidisciplinary collaboration, project management, and field involvement. The successful candidate will lead and review engineering work, manage project delivery, coordinate with clients and other stakeholders, support business development, and mentor staff. Rochester, New York is the preferred location; qualified candidates elsewhere in New York or the northeastern United States may be considered if they hold an active New York PE license and can travel periodically to the Rochester office and project sites. The annual compensation range is $120,000 to $175,000, plus an annual bonus, depending on experience, skills, and geographic location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental, civil, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited four-year college or university program.

  • Current and active Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York State.
  • Ability to independently perform, direct, and review environmental engineering work and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Experience across the contaminated-site lifecycle, including due diligence, Phase I/II ESAs, site characterization, remedial alternatives evaluation, design, implementation, and closure.
  • Experience with remedial design, engineering calculations, construction documents, drawings and specifications, cost estimating, and remedial implementation.
  • Project management experience, including scopes, budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and engineering standards, including the ability to interpret and apply requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically for project needs.
