About The Position

Atelier Ten is seeking a full-time Senior Environmental Designer with a specialty in Energy Analysis for their San Francisco office. This role involves collaborating on projects to achieve energy efficiency and carbon emissions reduction goals. The position will contribute to producing technical deliverables, performing whole building energy modeling, developing engineering strategies for building systems (HVAC), consulting on projects, and leading efforts in decarbonizing the built environment. The Senior Environmental Designer will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary environmental design consulting group and a key member of the company’s Energy Analysis practice. The role also includes consulting on and managing projects under the guidance of an Associate and/or Director, maintaining client and design community relationships, participating in meetings, supporting or leading design charrettes, and ensuring clear communication across teams. Ownership of reporting, budgeting, and time management is also expected to keep projects on track and deliver exceptional results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in a field related to environmental building design, architecture, architectural engineering, and/or building science
  • 5-10 years’ professional experience in an architecture, engineering or sustainability consulting firm
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word
  • Strong ability in visual communication and sketching
  • Effective time and budget management capability
  • Strong technical and business writing skills
  • Good verbal and inter-personal ability

Nice To Haves

  • LEED, or WELL AP with specialty certification preferred
  • Experience with software such as “R,” Grasshopper, Radiance, Revit, eQuest, EnergyPlus, IES, D3, or data visualization
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Rhino or graphics software (Adobe Illustrator and InDesign) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Independently and proactively plan and manage projects from start to finish
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and responsive service
  • Coordinate with design and contractor teams to ensure seamless project delivery
  • Lead client presentations, design charrettes, and internal team meetings
  • Collaborate with Atelier Ten’s technical analysis teams to integrate sustainability strategies into projects
  • Forecast project fees and resources, and manage budgets effectively
  • Author and review project deliverables, including reports, memos, technical studies, and drawings
  • Create compelling graphic illustrations to communicate technical concepts across our consulting practices
  • Work on a diverse range of projects within the built environment, including institutional, commercial, and residential buildings, as well as large-scale masterplans
  • Partner with Atelier Ten’s integrated design groups to support services such as environmental design consulting, daylight and façade analysis, and benchmarking
  • Perform whole building energy modeling
  • Develop engineering strategies for building systems (HVAC)
  • Consult on projects
  • Lead the industry in decarbonizing the built environment
