About The Position

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is seeking a strategic and hands-on Enterprise Solution Architect to support its rapid growth and complex operations. This role is responsible for defining, designing, and driving the overarching technology architecture across CFS's digital ecosystem, bridging business goals with technical execution. The architect will ensure seamless integration of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), cloud infrastructure, and data platforms into a unified digital thread. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in high-impact environments, enjoys solving complex IT/OT integration challenges, and wants to architect the digital foundation for the future of clean energy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 to 10+ years of total experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or lead systems architecture, with a focus on advanced engineering, hardware, aerospace, automotive, clean energy, or industrial manufacturing sectors.
  • Direct experience leading or delivering at least 2 to 3 full lifecycle implementations or modernizations connecting PLM, ERP, and MES/MOM platforms.
  • Ability to perform activities such as typing, standing, and sitting, for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call (up to 25% travel).
  • Ability to work in a facility with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
  • Compliance with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep hands-on design experience and domain expertise with industry-standard core systems, including PLM (Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, Aras Innovator, or PTC Arena), ERP (SAP S/4HANA, Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP / NetSuite, or Epicor Kinetic), MES (Siemens Opcenter, Manufacturo, SAP Digital Manufacturing (DM), or AVEVA MES), SCADA/Automation (Ignition, AVEVA System Platform, Siemens SIMATIC WinCC, GE Proficy, or Rockwell FactoryTalk View).
  • Hands-on experience with modern integration architecture (REST/GraphQL APIs, message brokers like Kafka or RabbitMQ, iPaaS platforms like MuleSoft, Workato, or Boomi), ISA-95 standards, PLM XML, edge computing, and IIoT shop-floor integration.
  • Strong experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), cloud-native design patterns, hybrid deployment models, and identity/security protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Define, document, and maintain the enterprise architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment between IT/OT infrastructure, software platforms, and long-term business goals while maintaining digital thread traceability.
  • Lead end-to-end architectural design for core enterprise applications (ERP, PLM, MES, CRM, Data Warehouse), establishing technical standards, Master Data Management protocols, system-of-record boundaries, and governance.
  • Architect secure, scalable integrations connecting shop-floor Operational Technology (OT) to cloud platforms and core enterprise applications.
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, finance, supply chain, and IT teams to translate business requirements into system blueprints, technology selections, and multi-year transformation roadmaps.
  • Conduct technical trade studies, proofs-of-concept (POCs), build-versus-configure assessments, and vendor evaluations to ensure modern, fit-for-purpose software and cloud solutions with optimized Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Work with Cybersecurity and Infrastructure teams to ensure all solutions comply with enterprise security standards, data privacy requirements, and regulatory policies.
  • Identify architectural bottlenecks, legacy technical debt, and redundancy, and build clear modernization roadmaps that support cloud/hybrid deployments, edge computing, and smart-factory initiatives.
