About The Position

National Interstate is a leading commercial transportation insurer seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect to join their team. This role will define and drive the long-term enterprise architecture vision, ensuring alignment between business strategy and technology investments. The architect will partner with business and IT leadership to shape technology roadmaps, influence strategic initiatives, and ensure the enterprise architecture supports business transformation and innovation. Key responsibilities include establishing enterprise-wide standards, evaluating emerging technologies, and providing guidance on complex technology decisions. The position requires a strong understanding of various technical areas and business segments, with the ability to translate strategy into actionable architectures. The role involves working under limited supervision and requires excellent analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills. The Senior Enterprise Architect will also mentor and develop other architects and technical leaders, acting as a subject matter expert within the organization.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or a related field.
Generally, a minimum of 14 years of experience enterprise architecture, or a related field.
Completion of or continuing progress toward a Professional certifications preferred, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or equivalent cloud/architecture credentials.
Expert knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).
Expertise in EA methods and artifacts (e.g., capability/value‑stream models, reference architectures, standards, roadmaps).
Requires in-depth knowledge across multiple technical areas and business segments.

Responsibilities

Defines and drives the long-term enterprise architecture vision, ensuring alignment between business strategy and technology investments across the organization.
Partners with business and IT leadership to shape technology roadmaps, influence strategic initiatives, and ensure enterprise architecture supports business transformation and innovation.
Ensures current and future business needs are met through scalable, sustainable, and adaptable technology solutions.
Establishes and governs enterprise-wide standards, frameworks, and reference architectures to promote consistency and interoperability across platforms and business units.
Leads the evaluation of emerging technologies, assessing their strategic fit and potential impact on enterprise capabilities and competitive advantage.
Provides guidance on complex technology decisions, balancing risk, performance, and business priorities.
Acts as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, influencing enterprise technology strategy and investment decisions.
May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Sets the enterprise architecture vision and directs multi‑year roadmaps that drive business transformation.
Demonstrates extensive enterprise/solution architecture experience across multiple domains and experience directing large-scale modernization and optimization efforts.
Proven ability to translate strategy into target/transition architectures and rationalize portfolios with clear cost–benefit.
Performs work under limited supervision.
Expert analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Proven ability to lead multi‑team initiatives and mentor and develop architects and technical leaders.
