About The Position

Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician (Systems Integration) to support Blue Water Instrumentation (BWI) operations at the Point Mugu Sea Range. This role is responsible for leading the hands-on integration, assembly, and fielding of multi-disciplinary prototype systems supporting maritime instrumentation, telemetry, and command-and-control experimentation. The Senior Engineering Technician serves as the bridge between engineering design and real-world execution, ensuring systems are built, integrated, and operational in both laboratory and field environments. This position requires a highly experienced practitioner capable of troubleshooting complex systems and delivering reliable capability under demanding test conditions.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Engineering Technology or related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in system integration, engineering support, or prototype development environments.
  • Experience integrating multi-domain systems (electrical, mechanical, RF, and/or networked systems).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and system-level issues.
  • Experience using test equipment and field diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to operate independently in dynamic laboratory and field environments.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and execution discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DoD test ranges, RDT&E programs, or field experimentation efforts.
  • Background in instrumentation systems, telemetry, or communications integration.
  • Experience with RF systems, antennas, and field communications setups.
  • Familiarity with networked systems and data acquisition environments.
  • Experience leading integration efforts for prototype systems or test events.
  • Knowledge of maritime or expeditionary system operations.
  • Experience supporting test and evaluation events.
  • Prior military or defense contractor experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the assembly, integration, and checkout of multi-disciplinary systems, including electrical, mechanical, RF, and network components.
  • Serve as the primary hands-on integrator for testbeds, instrumentation packages, and fielded systems.
  • Execute system installation, integration, and checkout activities in laboratory and field environments.
  • Lead test event setup, execution, troubleshooting, and teardown to ensure full system operability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues across electrical, mechanical, and communications domains.
  • Coordinate with engineers to implement design updates, modifications, and rapid prototyping efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior technicians and support small integration teams.
  • Ensure proper cable management, connectorization, and configuration control across system builds.
  • Support network and communications integration for test and operational environments.
  • Maintain accountability of equipment, tools, and prototype systems in support of logistics and property requirements.
  • Document system configurations, integration procedures, and test results.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, range operations, and mission requirements.
  • Work in laboratory, workshop, and outdoor maritime environments.
  • Perform hands-on integration and support of fielded systems and equipment.
  • Support extended hours or mission requirements during test events and operational activities.
