About The Position

Johnson Controls is hiring a Senior Lab Technician - 2nd shift (Monday - Friday 3:30pm - 12:00am). This role plays a key part in the successful execution of cutting-edge chiller development projects by ensuring testing is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. The technician will partner closely with Test Engineers to plan, set up, and execute comprehensive test strategies, bringing new products to life through hands-on validation. The role involves collaborating with a dynamic lab team to train, guide, and support test execution, ensuring consistency and excellence in engineering practices. The technician will act as a direct link to product engineering teams, ensuring all testing aligns with project objectives and performance expectations. This position is based in New Freedom, PA. Candidates must be commuting distance to the lab, or able to relocate. US Citizens and/or Permanent Residents will only be considered.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in HVAC, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology OR 3+ years of equivalent practical work experience in a relevant technical engineering test environment or HVAC technical role.
  • 1+ years of practical experience in computerized test facility control and data acquisition program use including test condition definition programming, control response management, and viewing data in graphic trend interface.
  • Familiarity with industrial HVAC systems, refrigerant transfer and management, and design of test protocols.
  • Understanding of HVAC technical principles, theories, concepts, techniques and processes.
  • Review specifications and resolve design discrepancies.
  • Perform simple routine system and component calculations, selections and write specifications.
  • Coordinate between customer and other departments to design, build and test components and systems.
  • Troubleshoot nonconforming systems and components for manufacturing, service, test lab, etc.

  • Able to work Monday - Friday 3:30pm - 12:00am

Responsibilities

  • Configuration, setup, and continual validation of expected operation of various temperature, pressure, power meters, and measuring devices using established company procedures and schedules.
  • Program test and control sequences into data acquisition software for the automated operation of test facilities.
  • Organize and keep current any required instrumentation lists and automated test protocols.
  • Test data review for accuracy, validation, and comparison to expected results for test protocols.
  • Developing, writing, and maintaining procedures for equipment operation, facility operation, or engineering test.
  • First-level support response in troubleshooting on-going chiller or component testing and modification.
  • Provide the required logistics and documentation support for the above duties in accordance with established company procedures and policies.
  • Assist in developing and training other employees.
  • Works closely with Test Lab team to construct/assemble new equipment and instrumentation as required.
  • Provide direction to test lab personnel on specific work assignments.
