About The Position

The Senior Engineering Technician – Extrusions provides technical support to cross-functional teams to characterize and develop new technology platforms and processes within Heraeus Medevio. As a Senior Engineering Technician - Extrusions, you’ll be reporting to the Principal Extrusion Engineer, working closely with a team of engineers to run the extrusion processes. You will set up, operate, troubleshoot, and clean all extrusion manufacturing equipment as indicated by specialized standards. You'll operate extruders, be responsible for material handling, including weighing and staging of raw materials and packaging, sampling and performing in-process testing, complete and maintain department paperwork, keep a clean/organized work area free of all foreign debris. This position will be located at Fridley, MN site and may require occasional travel to our White Bear Lake, MN facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required, 2-year technical degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant technician experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in tubing extrusion required.
  • Direct experience participating in complex projects to commercialization.
  • Ability to move between the Fridley, MN and White Bear Lake, MN sites, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a medical multi-lumen extrusion preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced support for engineering projects.
  • Seen as an engineering process "expert", requiring minimal engineering direction to complete activities.
  • Sets up, runs, and adjusts extrusion equipment per specialized standards on multiple pieces of machinery and/or processes with advanced knowledge of equipment setup.
  • Perform quality checks and examines product for defects and size variations and fills out production documentation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems as needed.
  • Take action to ensure quality limits and efficiency targets are met.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • Create draft manufacturing documents including work instructions, certification checklists, visual aids, setup sheets, etc., establishing and documenting process windows and controls.
  • Understand cause and effect as it pertains to process development.
  • Provide advanced support for transitioning projects into production including training of manufacturing personnel.
  • Provide ongoing engineering support optimizing tooling and production processes.
  • Implement controlled changes, within established parameters and process change procedures.
  • Provide training to others based on expertise or demonstrated work performance.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.
