About The Position

Intertek is seeking a Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician to join their Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Plymouth, MI. This role offers a career opportunity in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. Intertek-PSI is a leading US provider of construction assurance, testing, and inspection services, offering a broad range of services including construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing. The Senior Construction Materials Testing Engineer will support the Building and Construction business by performing Construction Materials Testing services, working closely with project engineers or managers, communicating test results and findings, and preparing reports.

Requirements

Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
Ability to climb occasionally
H.S. Education or Equivalent, preferred with 5 or more years of related experience required or Bachelors Science Degree from accredited engineering /ABET school and 0-2 years of experience.
Experience performing field and/or laboratory construction materials testing
Must have Basic Math, Calculator and Computer Skills
Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
Must be able to read and understand work plans
Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record

Nice To Haves

ACI, ICC, WisDOT or other inspector credentials
ACI/ICC/WisDOT certifications are preferred

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
Performing observations and testing of construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel placement, fireproofing and asphalt.
Attend project meetings alone without supervision
Trains other Technicians
Operates testing equipment and conducts testing (example: Soil, concrete or other), and provides assessment of data through reporting
Performing field and laboratory testing of soil samples and concrete specimens.
Documentation of daily activities and testing results and preparation of field reports.
Works utilizing drawings, specifications and diagrams
Working outdoors on a year-round basis on various construction sites.
Make detailed observations and gives limited interpretation of results
Maintains detailed documentation and data from test results
Operates a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
Clean / maintain equipment and perform site clean up
Interface with contractors and clients.
