About The Position

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Engineering Specialist to join our Waterway Structures team! The work arrangement for this position is fully remote. The Waterway Structures team is growing and has exciting projects for engineers who like to design large complex projects on or near the water. Our projects are unique and provide a diverse array of interesting work to keep our staff challenged and engaged. As a recognized national leader in the design of waterway structures, we handle projects from initial investigation and concept design, through final design and construction services. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • 15+ years of related water engineering experience required.
  • PE license required.
  • Experience with various structural engineering software analysis packages (i.e.: SAP2000 or STAAD.Pro).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or other related software.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with the US Army Corps of Engineers design procedures and Dam Safety Guidelines is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the ability to properly scope capital projects from concept through construction.
  • Forecast project timelines, prepare schedule for staff and meet deadlines for multiple projects at a time.
  • Possess the ability to find solutions to design issues regarding site constraints, applicable regulations, budgets, and timing.
  • Oversee and manage the design and bidding of capital improvement projects including but not limited to complex waterway structures (e.g., locks, dams, hydraulic steel structures, pump stations, hydraulic gates, and waterfronts).
  • Perform site investigations & due diligence including the research of utility services, determination of applicability of outside agency regulations, review of ordinances and performance of site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.
  • Manage and mentor engineer staff.
  • Provide oversight and knowledge to guide the design of waterway structures.
  • Oversee the preparation of construction specifications, public bid documents and construction cost estimates for municipal and public sector clients.
  • Check final design/draft structural tasks of complex projects.
  • Exhibit expert concrete, steel, wood, and masonry design skills for complex projects.
