About The Position

STV currently has an opening in our Fairfax, VA office for a Senior Engineering Operations Manager in our Traffic Engineering Group. You will manage a team of engineers to complete a wide variety of transportation engineering design projects. This role is for an experienced traffic engineer who is ready to further establish themselves in a leadership role. The successful candidate will manage task-order style projects, oversee design production efforts, mentor junior staff, and collaborate closely with senior leaders, clients and partner agencies including VDOT, DDOT, and other local jurisdictions. You will have the opportunity to: Manage task orders and small to mid-sized projects from planning through final design for VDOT, DDOT, and other local jurisdictions. Perform and quality check design criteria for traffic studies and design plans, including horizontal/vertical alignment, construction staging, traffic signal design, lighting, signing and pavement markings, and MOT/TTC design packages Supervise junior engineer design activities Support designs for Vision Zero and other traffic-related improvements Estimate costs and conceptualize project phasing to work with available funding Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to produce quality deliverables on time and within budget Support business development efforts through scope development, level-of-effort planning, and proposal input. Interact with clients on a regular basis Support the Client Service Teams in identifying opportunities, leading proposal efforts, and maintaining client relationships; represent STV at industry events through attendance or participation in professional organizations Participate in business development activities, including preparing technical and cost proposals and pursuing new client relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • PE license required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in design, management, and delivery of engineering projects
  • Experience developing schedules, task lists and managing staff to complete milestones on time
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (MicroStation, Civil3D, Auto TURN, Guide SIGN).
  • Experience with traffic analysis software (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, CORSIM, SIDRA).
  • Familiarity with MUTCD, VDOT Road Design Manual, Virginia Work Area Protection Manual, ADA/PROWAG pedestrian design requirements.
  • Desire to work closely with clients and customers

Nice To Haves

  • PTOE certification is a plus
  • Exposure to transportation planning software (TransCAD, CUBE) and photometric software (AGi32)
