About The Position

VSCO is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of server, web, and full-stack engineers. This team will focus on building a business management platform tailored for professional photographers, providing tools for client management, scheduling, invoicing, and workflow automation to help them streamline and grow their businesses. The role involves leading and developing engineers, staying hands-on technically as a player-coach, owning end-to-end outcomes, removing obstacles, and collaborating across departments.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time as a hands-on IC building production systems at scale.
  • 5+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience (including people management without a formal EM title) on user-facing products.
  • Strong familiarity with Go, TypeScript/React/Node.js, including the ability to write, review, and reason about code in these stacks.
  • Product sense that extends beyond management, with the ability to reason about scope, suggest alternatives, and help shape product development.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience applying AI tools and workflows in software development.
  • A track record of leading team adoption and embedding AI-enabled practices to improve productivity, engineering velocity, and operational efficiency.
  • Commitment to people leadership with demonstrated outcomes in facilitating team success and fostering a culture of technical rigor.
  • Ownership mentality, including resolving blockers, driving decisions, and accountability for team success.

  • Experience leading large technological migration initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and growing engineers, including hiring, coaching, and career development.
  • Structuring the team to ensure optimal placement of technical contributors.
  • Staying hands-on technically by reviewing code, contributing directly, and understanding system integrations.
  • Guiding architectural direction and helping the team deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Defining and refining the roadmap with the team and cross-functional partners.
  • Breaking down work, setting success metrics, and holding the team accountable for results.
  • Removing obstacles and helping the team and cross-functional partners get unstuck.
  • Collaborating with product, design, data science, and other engineering teams to shape product vision.
  • Applying AI tools and workflows in software development and leading team adoption of AI-enabled practices.
  • Facilitating team success and fostering a culture of technical rigor.
  • Resolving blockers for the team and cross-functional partners, driving decisions, and ensuring accountability.
