Senior Engineering Manager for Self-Serve (Learning)

DatabricksMountain View, CA
$222,000 - $300,000

About The Position

As a Senior Engineering Manager on the Self-Serve team at Databricks, you will lead the Learning bet end to end. This involves two main areas: self-paced learning, which includes a platform for learning any Databricks skill, hands-on labs within a real workspace, and a durable skill profile for learners; and enterprise-managed learning, providing administrators with tools to assign, track, and grow learning within their organizations. Artificial intelligence is central to both aspects, with a content-generation agent to scale the catalog and an AI tutor to guide learners interactively within the product. This is a foundational product (0→1) with significant systems depth, requiring on-demand provisioning, identity management, sandboxing, and an interactive learning engine designed to scale to millions of learners. You will grow and lead a team of approximately 12 engineers, with plans to double the team size, to build this product.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience with a strong track record of technical leadership and impact.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, including 2+ years managing other managers (or clear readiness to).
  • Staff engineer caliber IC background before pivoting to management, with full-stack experience (including back-end, not purely front-end/UI).
  • Comfort leading a mix of front-end and full-stack engineers.
  • Proven experience scaling engineering teams from 10 to 30+ engineers.
  • A track record building and scaling consumer-facing products, ideally taking early-stage products from 0→1 through scale.
  • Genuine excitement for product-led growth and putting AI to work in a real product.
  • Experience designing scalable, distributed, customer-facing systems, ideally in a SaaS environment.
  • Strong ability to align technical strategy with company growth objectives across product, engineering, and go-to-market partners.
