About The Position

The Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for translating company strategy into effective engineering execution. This role ensures strong technical rigor, predictable delivery, disciplined resource management, and a healthy engineering culture while developing mid-level managers and technical leaders. Armtec Defense Technologies (Armtec) is an operating unit of the Transdigm Group (NYSE: TDG), an industry leader in aerospace and defense products and services. Armtec is comprised of three business units producing subcomponents for ordnance in Coachella, CA; decoy countermeasure flares in Camden AR; and radar countermeasure chaff in Lillington NC. This position is staffed in Coachella, at Armtec’s world-class, sole-source production facility for felted fiber nitrocellulose combustible cartridge cases for medium and large caliber military ammunition; and pyrophoric payloads for training grenades.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or other relevant field is required.
12+ years of engineering experience in production or defense industries.
Strong foundation in engineering theory and practice, with the ability to apply first principles, data-driven analysis, and sound technical judgment to guide design decisions, troubleshoot complex problems, and challenge assumptions across multiple engineering disciplines.
Proven people and execution leadership, including experience managing managers, setting clear priorities and accountability, communicating status and risks effectively to leadership, and consistently delivering results through delegation and team development.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government to conform to U.S. export control regulations.

Ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality requirements.
Translate strategic objectives into clear priorities, milestones, and execution plans.
Identify risks early and drive mitigation before they impact cost, schedule, or performance.
Set standards for sound engineering practice.
Ensure designs, processes, and changes meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.

Make tradeoff decisions when resources are constrained and escalate appropriately.
Ensure effective use of budget, tools, and engineering assets.
Establish and use KPIs to monitor productivity, quality, and delivery performance.
Improve engineering workflows, review, and governance to increase predictability and efficiency.
Ensure lessons learned are captured and applied across teams.
Attract, retain, and develop high-performing engineering talent.
Conduct performance reviews and create meaningful development plans.
Build bench strength for future technical and leadership roles.
